Has anybody else had this issue? I found 3 stone chips on the roof that had started rusting. I have stone chips on the hood also but other than look bad they don't seem to corrode.

The spots were small (2mm in size) but the rust was spreading under the paint. I cleaned them up and primered them, then used some touchup paint. Looks bad, but I hope it stops the rust.

It most likely has to do with our lovely MI roads and weather. If you don't catch it quick enough, the salt will eat it up.

Yes there is, but I don't believe it covers any sort of rock chips though. Still something to look into.

I have a few little chips in the hood that I haven't touched up that I probably should. No rust yet on mine, but I try to keep a coat of wax or sealant on the car, which seems to help protect it.

Any chips on metal surfaces need to be touched up ASAP. Hopefully getting some paint on a spot that's already rusting will adhere, and prevent/stop from any more issues down the road.

My bonnet is absolutely covered in stone chips, it almost looks like snow it's so bad. Shows up really well on black too. Unfortunately Mazda use really thin paint coats, so no matter how many touch ups you do, you will continue to get more stone chips relatively quickly. I just make sure that I have plenty of sealant and wax on the car, which will help prevent rust and offer some minimal protection from further chips. I will probably end up having to go for a full respray at some point, but hopefully keeping the paintwork well sealed should avoid rust issues for quite a while.

wisconsin winters and salt have taken their toll on mine also, you should see the bubbled mess it made of my rear window pillar, looks like a 15 year old car and mazda will not cover it. I'll just be sanding down and covering up with some of those carbon fiber overlays soon.

I have the same issue with my roof. Mine is an 06. I actually have bubbles under the paint where there are no chips. I have heard that this is an issue with most of the Mazdas that come from Japan. I even have the Gaurdian Exerior Wheater Guard on mine, especially since Columbus loves to over salt the roads.

Took mine to a dealer and they are trying to tell me that it has been repainted. I personally think it is a load of BS. (Kinda) Good to here others are having this unfortunate issue. Maybe if we make enough noise they will fix the issue.
