2.0 conversion to 1.8 Coil Packs

Yes, it used to be so cheap. I was going to go this route before, but dammit!

well, so far i'm in the hole for $40 for the coil pack, then it will be another $40 for wires, maybe $10 for the coil braket, and MAYBE another $40-50 for a valve cover. thats a total of roughly $90-130 depending on whether or not i get a new valve cover. if this is a performance UPgrade, it should be worth it.

plus the way i see it is my original coils have over 100k miles on them, and they gave me a missfire the other day, so i want to replace them anyway. new 2.0 liter coils can only be had from mazda right now for a total of about $180 for two. (i tried locally, but no one has them listed as available)

that parts diagram ihave does not show the bradket included with the coil, and you need the bracket to mount the coil to your engine. otherwise, it won't look quite right.

If you order it from OnlineMazdaParts.com (where that pricing came from) you dont need to order the bracket as well. Read post #34

here's my pics...hopefully you guys with turbos can tell what kind of room these will take up.

the 2nd pic shows where i relocated the bracket that is in the mounting location for the coils. let me know if you need a better pic

my question is that everyone is talking about just egtting coils for 35 and the wires for 40.... but in the original catalog thing there is a part that costs $159... btu no ones is talking about this...

so what do i need and how much is the total cost?

some people are getting the coils from NAPA...that's why theirs are only $35...all you SHOULD need are the coils and wires. if you need the bracket (which i doubt), you can get it from mazda for $10.

from the pics that Topher posted, it looks like you only need the coils and the plug wires. those are the following Mazda part numbers:
FPY2-18-10X - Coil / Igniter
0000-18-152A - Wire Set, Ignition

Just did this over the weekend:

coil packs: napaonline.com
plug wires: sparkplugs.com
valve cover: free (uncle works next to the junkyard)

It's a camera phone picture, so bad quality pic.

After putting this on, I can't believe the car responds better...I wasn't expecting much, maybe better fuel economy & 1-2 hp increase...nothing to brag about, but the car idle and revs better!(ughdance) I have the rr-racing motor mount inserts (front & rear) and the car would shake bad, just at idle & shifting to first would cause the engine to jerk, but now it's gone. Maybe it's the new plug wires also that has to do with it, but I'm still using the same spark plugs.

I wonder if those that did this saw a major difference?
