04' Mazda 3 S / Nissan SE-R Spec V
So friday night was opening night at the track, street race style, no lights/slips' , just a flagger and only $6 all night racing. Our friends have a 03' Civic SI w/ intake/exhaust, rated 160hp too' I knew should be a good race. I let the fiance' run them 1st, she has never raced so time to teach her!! She kinda bogs, slow shifts and they got us off the line and stayed pretty much 2-3 cars difference, we barely started to gain in upper 2nd/3rd.

I knew I could do better so I run them, I launched around 4k , perfect not too much spin and grabbed good' 1st close then I just banged through the gears as fast as I could shifting around 6500 took them by 3+ Cars!!!! So good driver the Si is no worry!!! Gearing was perfect right at 6500 crossing the line'

Thought I would share we had fun and we know the Si w/ couple mods the the Mazda 3 S can't hang!!(band2)

Just was hard not hearing any growl!! I hate quiet cars, I have been dragging fwd's since 98' , and a stock car w/ no noise is kinda odd feeling..

Autocross and times to come~

that's awesome. My friend has a stock Mazda 3 Sedan, IDK which model, but the one with 148 HP. ANd my other friend has a 03 SI, and both are stock. They always talk about racing, and it now gives me a perspective on what to expect next time we go to the tracks, although my friends 3 is the lower model.

So a 03 Si with just intake and exhuast got whooped by your brand new stock 3S by 3 car lengths. Not that I don't believe this story cause anything can happen and obviously your friend in the Si needs to go back to his training wheels.
And as for the good driver the Si is no worry comment, dont go raising everyone's hopes cause you beat one with a bad driver, actually the only Si that the 3S can beat stock is the older model Si's from 89/92 to 93/95 or the 02 Si which was junk when they brought it back. 99/00 and 03/04 with a average drive or decent driver will be a whole diffrent story. But I guess there are alot of bad honda drivers out there so you guys really dont have anything to worry bout. (spin)

Not saying it's hard to beat an Si and from a stop I can understand any car taking an Si off the line but he wrote he ended up +3 car lengths in front, now I'm not the smartest man in the world but, thats where the Si's potentiol is and if it has some type of bolt on's, espicially the K20A engine which responds better to mods then the B16A2 then it's just gonna help it out that much more.
And for the 0-60 for an Si, 99/00 is 7.1 and the 02/^ is 7.9 but obviously the race didnt end there if he put 3+ car lengths on him unless his buddy was shiffting from 1st to 5th. (lurk)

An SI with those mods is a mid 15 at best...(dunno)

Honda is WAY too overrated....
Yeah I guess that's why they have such a high resale value. And for the 99/00 Si's only having a 1.6 liter engine pushing out 160hp is over-rated as well. And we won't talk about a 2.2 liter that can make 240hp NA. I don't know, but to me that's technolgy and brilliant. Not saying the rotary is not exellence in work cause it is, but I'm talking bout car's with some kinda internals. Rotary is in my opinion one of the greatest engine's ever built.
Now from what i've been writing it looks like i'm some kinda honda lovin, rice eating, POS trolling a**hole, but in reality i'm really a car enthusiasts that just try's to explain to people that dont like cars just cause of there name because of some punk a** kid rubbing there car off the wrong way to the populance of the streets that every other car modifyer roll's on and try to explain to them what's really going on instead of all that brainwashing they have experienced from reading nonsense. But everyone will have there diffrent view on things and thats what makes the sport compact scene so beautiful.

Exactly, a stock3S is what at best. (dunno) And lets not go magazine reading cause non of us are proffesionals and do testing for a living. And every track is diffrent and elevation where you live will always play a factor. Someone go to the track in there stock 3S and post up your slip, I have a 3S and or track doesnt open til may and it's only a 1/8 but all you gotta do is 1.56 and multiply that with your 1/8 mile time and it's in the the ball park somewhere. So if know one go's before I do, I'll post up. Video as well. (angel)

I'm a Honda guy...look at the torque numbers and all that technology doesn't mean much.

The rotary is a gas hog and makes no torque. I think they're neat, but about as applicable to the modern world as a Hemi...

ok...I'm not saying the numbers aren't impressive on the Hondas but EXCITEMENT-wise and standard equipment-wise the newer Mazdas beat the newer Hondas for the money...and stock Hondas offer you a million parts to spruce up the car...the Mazda 3 gives you some of the aftermarket from the get-go....Resale might be good but still Honda is pretty vanilla....

Yeah thats for sure, honda just needs to move on and move away from the Si's and NSX's, f*ckin things are way overpriced. I love my wifes Mazda 3S, I know that thing will out handle my 99 Si any day, can't wait til the autocross day come's to take both car's auto crossing and drag racing.

Si battle'

The newer Si's aren't that impressive at all !! I had a buddy w/ RSX Type S, whole different story, mad iV-tec pull and pretty good mid-range too' . The Si motor is pretty weak compared to the RSX Type S motor , I was dissapointed when I drove one, ya wait and it never takes off.

Like I said I let my fiance' run them 1st' just got us off the line, then stayed pretty much same distance. I raced his g/f, good 3+ cars, then her b/f wanted to driver the car, again 3+ cars. The Mazda 3 S has more tq too' 150 ftlbs.tq !!!

We didn't know what to expect I just knew it should be a good battle', not so close..

The 1st import race here is Easter sunday, but autocross is same day, so not sure what event were going to yet' Keep everyone posted time slips' I would guess around a mid 15 at quickest' ??

oh nice kill (thumb) way to go... i killed many civics too :)

any car can be fast
so i see no need in hating on any car
i saw a hyundai beat the new viper truck, props to them

good kill
now everybody just needs to let it go

Nice Kill

Nice kill, I like drag racing and all, but I really really love Roadracing, autocross, etc. It's nice to see that a stock Mazda 3 can hang with a civic si, which you have to admit is what everyone kinda uses as a benchline as to how fast a car is. What I really really want to know is how the 3 does on road racing. I mean My current car is a saturn sc, and yes it's pretty much a turd on straight-aways, but put it on a road course and it'll be one of the best handling FF cars you can see. I test drove a 3 and didn't really get a chance to really pour it on, because of the dern salesman, but my initial impressions is this car will def. be a handling machine. I hope to get one really soon and get into some scca with it. In Addition to 1/8th and 1/4 times, I'd like to see some 60ft times, slalom times and lateral g tests

As useful as the S2000 motor....lots of power, but no torque.....same as the renesis rotary

Well I have both the Mazda 3S and a 99 Civic Si. On a straight away, my Si will walk all over the 3, but I have 3 bolt on's compared to the stock 3. Now on a autocross I havent done yet but just from driving my 3 compared to my Si, I know that the 3 would out handle my Si any day. I love the way the 3 handles. That's what sold me when I test drove it.
