130mphs

Gearing won't allow it. The only way to go over what gearing allows is to be going top speed fast to begin with then some how push in the clutch to try to go faster...
then you gotta worry about the cv joints/axles...oh, and brakes? heh...:D

Wow if calculations are correct this time and 164 mph is possible, then that's just freaking awesome. I'm gonna have to try out that formula on some other cars. The only thing I'm not sure about is the .50 aspect ratio. Is that the same for all tires or how do you derrive that number?

Yeah in a vacuum.

That's exactly what I was thinking...
Factor in a little Air Resistance here, drag co-efficient there... hmmm... lol

Even with a turbo the protege doesn't accelerate very fast after 120. It could hit 150 mph but only going down hill, with a tail wind and being pushed by a Viper.

k, didnt read all but...

i dont know wat everyone was writing but from personal experience i went 133mph with exhaust only, it took kinda long to get there but it got there on flat surface. a friend of mine put turbo no his p5 and it shut down at about 135mph, the car just turned off. if im repeating wat someone else said, sorry, i was too lazy to read all of the posts :P.

Some clarifications:

.50 aspect ratio? The stock tire for the P5 is 195/50 R 16. 195 = Width of the tire in mm. 50 = Aspect ratio (sidewall's height is roughly 50% of the tire's width). 16 = diameter of rim in inches.

Yes, 7200 RPM is the fuel cut off

The only way that I could think of, realistically, reaching that top speed would be to put it on rollers with little friction. Other than that, 164 mph isn't attainable because of drag.
