1.8t

Yeah the VW and Audi 1.8T's have horse power ranging from 150-180 and there is quite a difference between the high and low.....my buddy has a 2000 Passat with the 150HP 1.8T and it is slower than my g/f's 180HP 1.8T Jatta.

Believe the VW Bug had the 150HP version when it came out?

what was done to the tiburon to make 240hp

More than likely a Supercharger. That seems to be the route to go if you want alot of power with those cars. I know of a few guys/girls with some pretty powerful Tiburons. (Including a 311whp one) My Friends with I/E/P ran consecutive 14.6s (but only puit down 165 whp (dunno) )

never raced or driven a tiburon they came into my mind for a split second when considering a new car then i remembered they are still hyundais lol

1.8T's are a beast for a stock motor. Ive raced stock MSP's and stock 1.8T Jettas, I get ***** so had by the 1.8T, the MSP wasn't much quicker than my P5...

The 1.8T's are some decent cars. We have 3 in our crew ( GTI, Wolfsburg Jetta, and an 04 GLI). The GLI is the only one that's not chipped, the other two are both chipped and running turboback exhaust... The other two are a handfull, either off the line or from a roll. Be cafeful, if you get caught slipping, they will hand you your arse...

I love my g/f's stock Jetta 1.8T we got a couple months ago. I thought they were pretty close to the MSP if raced stock. I have not been in a MSP driven hard and I take the jetta out once in a while. I took Astral for a ride last night after we installed his optima before we went to the bar......he was impressed with it. The Mazda's do handle a lot better then the stock Jetta GLS. Not sure about the GLI.......

It was this kids Wide Body Tiburon V6 with:

Dual Exhaust
Intake
Headers
FlyWheel/Crank Pulley
Clutch

not sure what else was does thats all I remember...

Hmm... my 337 is pushing 2900lbs. The weight varries a lot more than you would think on the Mk4 platform. The new GLi's are 3200, I think the normal GTi's are around 3000, with the 337 is in the mid 2800s and the 20th Anniversary GTi is in the upper 2800s. I would say drivers race, but I think a moded 1.8t would indeed gun down the MSP for sure. Also the GLi, 337, and 20th AE all use the same six speed tranny so they require an extra shift in the 1/4 mile. I dont understand why the GLi weighs so damn much...

my friend has a AWE chipped 20th anni GTI. i raced him w/ just a mbc set to 9 spikin to like 11. we went from a roll, not much skills needed, we were pretty even 2nd -> 4th w/ him pullin maybe a fender if that.

What excatly is lighter on a 337 or 20th AE? It has heavier wheels than a normal GTI 1.8t, different seats, some interior trim, different seats and, lowered suspension with some different tuning- what else?

I really couldnt tell you why the 337 and 20th are lighter. The 18in BBS RCs on the 337 only weigh 19lbs each, the Aristos on the 20th are 20 something... The 337 lacks a sunroof which is why it is lighter than the 20th, and the rims are lighter. Unless the 6speed on the 20th and 337 is lighter than the 5speed I couldnt tell you.
