1.6L ZM-DE OBX Header?

Mine just arrived today!!! I'll post pics after I have it installed on Saturday.

Hey, the insides were pretty dirty. We don't need to wash it out with water do we? I know, dumb questions =P

Any install tips guys?

Yes, buy everything you need before starting the installation.

It's almost sure that you will break a screw because of the rust.
Let the motor warm too cause it makes it easier to remove the stud that are in the block. You should also buy the "gasket" that is in between the flange just after the header.

Have fun.

Hey guys, I got mine installed on Sunday. The extra power is definitely noticible and it feels great! I can't believe how bad the original header design was...

No problems with the install, but was the header supposed to change colors?

yeah and it will get even darker than that. just don't touch it, cuz once you get prints in them you'll mess up the even coloring due to natural oils on the fingers... most people get them ceramic coated to keep the "polished" or "chromed" look...

Does anyone know what the piece is called that connects from the intake to the nipple on the header on very top right side? Its a compression fitting and my compression nut is stripped. I need to get that whole piece replaced but I dont know what its called.

you can't just buy the pipe, if you did you wouldn't be able to the the nut's onto the pipe... call your local mazda dealership

The pipe and the nut are sold separate so I ordered the nut. Now I just have to figure out how to get the pipe off.

n/m i figured it out

Is it normal that I do not have the EGR piping on my car. Instead, a threaded cap was blocking the hole. Check my previous pics to know what I mean. The car came stock like this.

Yes, it's normal.
Also, U.S. Proteges, 1.6L '99 and '00 non-California cars have no EGR as well
iirc.

I know these are stupid questions but what does the ERG pipe do? What is the difference of having one and not having one? and can you take a pic where te ERG pipe connects to the other end?

it did fit well, and i dont bother have a cheaper part since all the part ive put are cheapo one (muffler, cai, piggyback, header) at the end ive got sumthing to have fun with and its a nice package for 500$us :) i would definitly go hi-boost on this but 4200$ its about the price of the car! better keep that $$ on something with power like audi '98 v6 2.8, eclipse GSX, maybe a honda with h22a or nissan with sr20 det
(something with ~200 hp right at the start)

I see you mention you havea a piggyback for your car. What piggyback works with the 1.6L ??

Oh yea your car wont get much louder with the header. I had that set up for a while, but if you want it to sound real nice get an MSP axleback...really nice deep sound.

im gonna try header next payroll. ive had a MSP axleback. it got loud somehow, but when i took it off, it was actually coming loose so...I bought struts with the money, so i think it was a good trade-off.
