1.6L ZM-DE OBX Header?

Whoops sorry for slaughtering your name, but Thunder's header costs more and requires more work doesn't it? Can someone who knows more about both create an advantage/disadvantage comparison of each before I blow more money on my weak little car? It was a long time ago since I read up on the Thunder header, but I recall that you still need to do something special to get it to work or avoid the CEL.

I think i have gone over the ebay pics and the one of the post installed in that car by ducktape almsot a hundred times lol, and they are not the 2.0 OBX headers. I am holding one in my hand right now and the egr thread pipe is way more angled on the ebay one and the one on his car, the 2.0 is almost horizontal i can take pics of the 2.0 one if you wish but all the pics related to this post do not show the 2.0 obx header.

here is a picture of the EGR threaded pipe.

and it just clicked when I was looking at the second pic... the 2.0 flange has a totaly different bolt pattern than the 1.6 depicted in the ebay image or the one on the car. so surfice to say the ebay OBX Header is not a 2.0 OBX header. but a header for a different engine. anyway hope that cleared some things up...

I contacted the ebay buyer again and he is not ducktape. I asked him about the CEL and invited him to come join us. Here is what he said:

hi,, i didn`t used anyting just bolt them on ,, about power gain i don`t have any real numbers but i can really see a big different on gain,,, it have been well over a month and no problems at all no cell no leaks, but sorry i have no picks ,i`ll see if i can take some picks at work and i`ll send them to you

If he sends some pics, I'll definetely be posting them here!

its most lilely a 1.6 obx header, the cel you can do the same thing the 2.0 does and thats get two spark plug non foulers, drill one to a larger size and screw both of the non foulers into the obx and the O2 sensor into the non fouler... or get the wires... I don't know much about 1.6's... my two cent.

It was a long time ago since I read up on the Thunder header, but I recall that you still need to do something special to get it to work or avoid the CEL.

Main differences:

Thunder's welds are stronger/better. Thunder welds the main flange to the collector pipes from the rear and also spot welds on the front. Other headers
weld the pipes only to the front.
Thunder's flanges are thicker and made of stainless also. Others' flanges are generally mild steel.
Thunder's header is two pieces and actually easier to install. This also creates a flex point so there is less stress put on the welds during engine movement.
Thunder has added a built-in CEL eliminator. You should not throw a CEL with this header. OBX does not include the CEL eliminator. The probable reason the OBX did not throw a CEL is because '99 and '00 Non-California 1.6's do not have a pre-cat and the 2nd 02 sensor is not required. You just cap it off.

REALLY DUMB QUESTION COMING YOUR WAY! SHIELD YOUR EYES IF YOU DON'T WANT TO SEE!

Where is a good, cheap, trustworthy place to take my car to have a header installed?

Ok say I get this header with all the talk of it not having the eliminator and with the statement above would I throw a CEL with a 1.6?

A guy I've been in contact with on ebay who bought the OBX has been driving with it for a month now and he has no CEL. I specifically asked him and he didn't need to do any CEL eliminating or whatnot.

You will also not throw a CEL on the Thunder header (built-in CEL eliminator).

do it yourself?

No airtools + clueless = bad idea. I have been reading up on installs online and it sounds like experienced people can do it in 30 min while newbs can take over 4 hours! Anyway, it's not worth my time (or money when I severly mess up my car), so I'm planning to take it to my family mechanic for $80. He lives 40 miles away from me so I'm wondering if somewhere nearby will be able to do it for maybe a lower price without sacrificing quality. Would appreciate any advice! Thanks!

but I could stop by and say hi.

Thanks...but I will be in Hong Kong in July so it wouldn't work even if you had the time. Any suggestions on a good place to bring my car to?
