Cuz that's how we roll! lol u posted too!
Glad to know it's normal. I found that out and was kinda worried. I've never missed 4th and hit rev but it is wierd that they didn't put a safety stop in. I'm really begining to think that this is the goofiest car mazda has ever made. It's like they said "Lets make a Speed Protege" and slapped a turbo and a big ass wing on it and called it good.
There is definately a lock-out mech for reverse in the MSP tranny. I just replaced the one inside S.A.MSP's tranny when we had the diff welded. It is about a $45-$50 part.
I tore my tranny apart last year and I did not notice anything amiss. There is definately a lock-out mech for reverse in the MSP tranny. I just replaced the one inside S.A.MSP's tranny when we had the diff welded. It is about a $45-$50 part.
Maybe somehow I am going through neutral when I thought I was going straight down. It has only happened a handful of times.Only if you cross into neutral does the lockout release! Like in my case going from 2nd and crossing neutral to rev instead of 4th.
Any chance you would have the part#? I went to the parts dept. and they didn't know what the hell I was talking about. How hard is it to replace? Do you have to pull the tranny and tear it apart?
I had my tranny looked at for some noises it was making, and while they had it open, they noticed the reverse lockout was broken... i had no idea! Maybe it's a relatively common issue with these transmissions?
Much appriciated. I'll see what they say now. But would not having it cause any problems as long as you don't put it in reverse while going foward? If that is the sole purpose of the part then I think I'll wait till I get my diff welded to replace it.
