Subwoofer

Has anyone built or had built/installed by a shop a custom subwoofer enclosure? I've seen the one with the downfiring JL 12. I am looking for some ideas. Thanks

He said he already seen that one?(smash)

Right, I am looking for some more ideas. Is he the only person who added a subwoofer to their CX-7? I am plenty skillful with this type of thing (I am an audiophile and have built many systems, wood, fiberglass, carbon fiber, etc.) So even if you just have an idea that you haven't acted on let me know. I am open.

I've added a sub, it just was not a custom enclosure, I would like to see one where the spare would go, I took out my spare.

Help me out here - I must be getting old or something.

I understand the need/desire to have awesome sound in our rides, but what's the benefit of putting a HUGE box in the cargo area like that? All the cargo area is now useless - afterall, isn't that why most of us buy a SUV/CUV?

I have the tech package. The Bose system, for me, rocks! With the installed woofer and amp, I turn up the volume to 24/25 and it's litterally too loud for me. You stand outside, with the windows closed and I can clearly hear the music. So, from my perspective, why put in a bigger box.(uhm) Isn't that overkill?

Vince.

I understand where you're coming from. I am wanting to put in 1 10 inch woofer. Not a huge box (somewhere around 1 cu ft). You can't properly reproduce frequencies in the subwoofer range without the subwoofer. For about the cost of the Bose system upgrade I can put in a system that sounds a LOT better. So that's why I went with the basic system.

This is just the way I went, doesnt mean that you have to go that way. If you want to do a 1 cu ft or so box, I would try to do it in the little pocket by the back door, either to the right or left side. As far as cargo room for me goes, I bought the car for that(partially), but now my needs have changed, and I dont really need the room, just the seats. Different strokes for different folks I guess. BTW you havent heard Pink Floyd, or Metallica till you've heard it in my car!!(hump)

Because a big subwoofer and and big subwoofer box are the type of cargo he bought the CX7 to carry.

I just finished making fiberglass box for my sub last night. It is going to be corner loaded at the trunk.
Will post pics tonight.

Here are the pics of my fiberglass enclosure and my amp racks without carpet. I already carpeted amp rack but I did not take new pics yet. So here it is.
The sub enclosure will be fitted on to the left corner of the trunk and the amp racks will be attached behind the rear seats.
The goal was to have the usable trunk space and to keep the function of folding seats and spare tires.
