EPB stuck

Hi all,

2016 CX5 owner with stuck EPB here that needs advise. My car wont move and pressing down the EPB switch does nothing . The parking brake light flashes red on the dash and I have a solid orange parking light present. The EPB switch itself also has a flashing light.

I did not do any brake work prior to this happening. Just tried to back out of my garage today and the car had the lights on the dash but it did not engage the parking brake. When I got back home from a quick trip the parking brake automatically engaged and when i switched off the car and it will not release.

I had a mechanic come over and take a look at it and his scan tool reports the EPB switch is faulty.
I was able to take the EPB switch out and examine it but could not see any issue.
Are these EPB switches (KA0G66EP0)
a known weak point?

Known issue for that year, happened to me. Rear calipers will most likely have to be replaced with an updated version if it hasn't happened already. Follow this link to get the TSB:

2016 CX-5 Brake issues...Any thoughts?

Thanks for the replies.

I had seen that TSB before and knew about the EPB dragging issue. I am the second owner and I have not done this TSB fix.

In my case however pressing the EPB switch does nothing , no noise . The light on the switch flashes continously.

@nickswhip24 I cannot move the vehicle, I tried to reverse but the EPB just would not let go. The mechanic I called was for roadside assist . But he put a scanner on and said its the EPB switch and asked me if I dropped any liquids on it, which I did not.

Its night here in Australia now, tomorrow I will check the caliper numbers to see if its applicable.

@madar when you had the issue did pressing the EPB switch cause any sound from the actuator or did nothing happen as well?

Isn't there a release procedure (maybe in shop manual) where a person can crawl underneath and with a wrench/socket manually release the brakes.

No, I believe the issue was a worm gear inside the unit got hung up on some bad machining. Eventually it broke loose, but the car was only a year old at the time.
