Mazda Appoints New CEO, Prioritises USA - Wonder If Any Immediate Impact On CX-5

Mechanically the DSG is very solid. There were some issues with the mechtronics initially when it was released over a decade ago but those are long resolved. Only issues I’ve personally seen were on heavily modified cars so.... I really see no issue with wet clutch DSG.

Yes it does relate to that but it's also the design and execution of the transmission.

Ford just got fined here because of it - blamed customers driving style when it was their fault:

Court orders Ford to pay $10 million penalty for unconscionable conduct

All I have to say is thank goodness Mazda is staying with it's well sorted out SkyActiv 6 speed conventional transmission.
So after reading this link, my question is what did Ford do after 2016 to alleviate the problems alluded to with the PST?
In other words, why were cars manufactured from 2017 on not subject to the same problems?

They were refining it as it went a long. Also quite a few of the complaints were basically nvh and not really a true problem......

The main true issues were from the earlier ones where oil was leaking into the bell housing contaminating the clutches.

Reviews here on new Golfs, Audis etc with DSGs still say they are not that smooth at low speeds.

Maybe you guys get dry..... I can tell you my GTI is smoother than our CX-5 which is still reasonably smooth.

Buddy had the expensive Fusion with a bigger engine. I thought it drove great.

In the US I don’t think they ever used the powershift in the Fusion. I believe it’s just in the Focus and Fiesta. Maybe in the transit connect.... as that’s on the Focus platform I believe.

Wonder what the gear ratios will be for the new SkyActiv-X (uhm)

Will they stick to their mantra of trying to reach top gear as soon as possible in order to achieve good fuel economy like it is with the current transmission (scratch)

That's all well and good but also need to good old performance - expand sport mode perhaps

I recently read Mazda is working on a next gen 8 speed skyactiv transmission. Should conincide with the skyactiv X release in the next 3.

Toyota’s new transmission sounds a lot like Skyactiv AT. I wonder if it’s a joint venture as theirs is 8 speed.

OK thanks

Don't think it's a joint venture as if memory serves, Toyota & Mazda only exchanged shares in each others companies last year.
Agreed. Toyota's new 8-speed AT definitely is not a joint venture with Mazda. Toyota announced their 2 new Direct-Shift ATs in Dec. 6, 2016, which means they started thier project development long before share exchange last year between two companies. Not to mention Toyota comes up a 10-speed too. But Toyota seemed to copy many nice features from Mazda's SkyActiv-Drive AT.

And where are those who insisted Mazda does't need to add gears to our 6-speed AT because it's better than 8-speed or 10-speed's? ;)
