Thank you for contacting Haltech USA about your Mazda protg. In
order to control alternator output, you must enable alternator control on
one of the DPO outputs. This will allow you to set the proper settings for
your alternator control in the alternator control tab.
Her is an excerpt from our help file: Some Mazda alternators require
a PWM signal to regulate alternator output voltage. This feature allows the
ECU to control the PWM output to achieve the desired alternator output
voltage (Actual alternator control values from a NB Mazda Miata MX5).
Frequency - The frequency required to control the given alternator.
Start Duty - This is the duty cycle that is close to the duty required to
deliver the proposed target voltage.
Minimum Duty - The minimum output duty.
Maximum Duty - The maximum output duty.
Gain - Controls the sensitivity of the control system, the larger the gain
the larger the change in duty when there is an error between the actual
battery voltage and the desired battery voltage. Setting this too high will
result in too much ripple or pulsation in the output voltage. Setting this
too low will result in large error when electrical load varies from minimum
to maximum, such as the difference with headlights on.
The questions about how to provide alternator control on your car is
difficult to answer due to a lack of vehicle specific information available.
You will be responsible to figure out which wire should be hooked to the ECU
and what the proper settings should be.
Good luck with your project and please let me know if I can be of
any further assistance.
