The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

I must also add, Batchplots and the Sheet Set manager are your friend. I've set 100 page plan sets to plot and walked out the door before.

Yea I get that. I have been known to stay to get things done, or come in early, but I'm hourly, and compensated for such. Also, if I have something planned after work, that's what I'm doing. Don't come at me at 3:30, asking for 3 hours of work before I leave for the day. It's not going to happen. Not that I won't try to get things done up until quitting time, but if it doesn't happen, then it doesn't happen. Tough crap.

What type of CAD drafting do you do?

i went to school for architectural drafting, interned at a company doing electrical/railway stuff and have 5+ years at the company im at now doing civil/geotechnical drafting

i did publish (mass plot in autoCAD) for most of them, BUT there were like 9 sheets that i had to turn specific layers on and off for and those didnt get published and those were one of the drawings i did not get plotted....

oh well, ive been ready to leave this place for a while, just run into the issue that even though im pretty proficient in AutoCAD, Civil3d, and MicroStation... alot of companies are looking for people with 5+ years of specific job experience (examples, ive applied for CAD jobs for structural, electrical, and even one for piping HVAC type of deal... none called, and when i called and asked if they got my resume, i continued to get the same answer, you have good job exp in CAD BUT we are looking for 5+ years in THIS specific field which you do not have... had i known job hunting would be like this now 5 years ago, i wouldnt have taken this job but you are told fresh out of college get experience then go look elsewhere... seems like that advice has bit me in the ass

little easier said than done when im the ONLY drafter/designer here at this company...
if i dont bend over backwards then it doesnt get done and clients dont stay happy...
I get that part of the job and oddly enough i dont hate that as much as i probably should...
what i do hate is when i bend over backwards for an engineer and then instead of being thanked they blow up on me for the simplest mistake (IE missing one print out of 60)

See, thats the exact problem I have with work environments these days. Everyone expects you to drop what youre doing and take care of them, and then turn around and instead of being appreciative, they find somethibg to point out that you did wrong no matter how small the mistake. And its not just limited to one industry; i see that crap everywhere and its disheartening.

I preffer Monster for my energy drink, when I drink some, its basically Mtn Dew on roids.
This. Monster > Dew > Full Throttle > Red Bull > Rockstar

I haven't tried Amp. Orange kickstart tastes like MD with a little OJ in it, not impressed.

We had one hell of a time finding anyone that is proficient in Civil3d, which what we use exclusively. We are a Civil/Surveying site development firm.

Fortunately, we have an unwritten policy, older job prevails. i.e. second revisions before first revisions before new job, also follows order of recieved/awarded. This is sometimes overwritten by my boss, then its out of my hands and i don't care, i just do it.

This is exactly how every buyer on a forum is, even if you post that things only get shipped out on Saturdays. You can add my brother to that list.

Can't wait for the day to be over, nice long weekend of camping ahead. Anybody else have plans this weekend or is it too early to plan?

Camping sounds great, are you going to one of our state parks? Gotta' get out and enjoy our parks yo.
Once i've got my car all back together i'll probably have to take my sister down to Athens, and on the way i might check out "Boch Hollow"- one of our state nature preserves. Wild flowers are blooming, mushrooms are starting to.... sprout... or fruit, what ever those do, and early may/late april is the best time to see migratory birds comming through ohio! (wow.) If i get my way we'll be heading up to "Magee Marsh wildlife area" saturday or sunday for the last couple days of the bird freak out. 100's of people go cram onto a small trail to look at one very confused bird... or a few very confused birds. It's awesome.

^damn that sucks Levi.

I'm sure some of you have noticed I made a facebook event for the columbus meet as well. Invite whoever because I know I'm not friends with alot of mazda peeps on there

I noticed!! It popped up like 3x ... Nate's spamming!! We'll spread the word. It will be nice to make it this year!!

Going to AEP ReCreation Lands http://www.aep.com/environment/conservation/recland/
Better than a state park because it's free

That place looks pretty nice! How'd you find out about it?

On another note, who all is coming to Gripped Ohio/Cleveland Racing's SONIC meet tonight in Parma? We'll be there as long as it's not raining! Half price shakes after 8pm FTW!! lesson learned, get in line early!!

I got a little crazy with posting about it last night.

Amber's family has gone for years, I never knew about it until we started dating.
