Calling all MS3 Owners with smoking Turbos...

Jay I still believe the turbo seals are a manufacturing failure. Not that the turbo could not be abused enuogh to head south. Alot of smoke after warmed, or on restart when warm means you are throwing oil imo.

i have smoking turbo as well

i have a 2007 MS3 and i have ZERO mods at idle i've smokin like crazy i took it back to the factory and to the best of my knowledge they said they were going to swap out the turbo with a new one anyone else have the problem and this rectify it

Thank you for posting sir. And I hope all is well with new turbo installed! If your build date is early 07 you might get the better fuel pump too, if you have idling or sputtering issues! Let us know your results. And best luck

i smoke too. 08.5 GT. dp/rp intake, rcv,i am going to try a catch can in -line before the pcv valve when i install my front mount that is on order. i will update after. also i noticed i only smoke if i drive the car really really hard. it doesnt smoke if i cruise around (ex. 40 mph in 5th gear). i removed the intercooler and found no signs of oil. i dont seem to be burning much oil either. my car only has 3000 miles on it. i first noticed my car smoking after i changed the oil at 2500 miles.

Why don't you take it to the dealers...? (huh)
Its a brand new car!!! It shouldn't be smoking!!!!

Have you increased your boost at all?
If you put that catch can in there...the dealer will most likely blame the smoke on that...

I have a feeling the dealer is going to take a swing at the downpipe before he even thinks about the catch can!!

I have to say this is the biggest thing keeping me from messing with the exhaust on this car.
That's kind of ridiculous if you think about it, we can't even touch the exhaust on this performance car with it smoking like a hippy at tree-hugging convention.

I had that exact same concern when I was thinking about a DP. I just said screw it, whatever happens happens. If it does smoke, then its an opportunity to upgrade the turbo... (2thumbs)

Knock on wood...I haven't smoked at all...Knock on wood.

also knocking on the wood and thinking along the same lines X. My dealership had no problem with my mods. i am sure that varies from dealership to stealership. again I have been lucky i think.

I have a 2007 sport edition MS3. I have TBE, FMIC/Intake, EBC, BOV, MM & recently installed a catch can. The car has roughly 36,xxx miles and I have been smoking like a chimney at idle. I can eliminate the fact of the oil blow by because I have the catch can installed. So, that leaves me left to blame the turbo seals!!! I will be taking out my turbo this week and sending it to PG to get the reworked K04. I am pretty upset of the fact that, that money was going for a clutch because I really need it bad, but now I need the turbo fixed. Hopefully I can hold off until next income tax check to get the clutch, unless some money falls into my lap to buy it sooner. Wishful thinking. Oh well....

Upside: better turbo that is efficient to make 350whp

so you the guy who call mazda usa because your turbo went bad, and you took your car to ocean mazda without putting it back to stock, even running straight pipes all the way. i recognise your car because you took off the lower grille where your fmic is. why did you call mazda usa.?

They said they were going to try to get me a new K04. Trying to invest the money on the clutch, if I was able to get the new K04.

I was not going to put my car back to stock. If I would of gone through the hassle, I would of just sold the car off better and sold off my parts.

I was out of warranty. Therefore, Ocean Mazda service Manager told me to call Mazda USA for that reason. I am going to get the KO4 reworked with PG. Thanks anywayz.

That is cool with the upgrade and offering the good stocker to a brother. i was wondering where your car is headed for performance and which turbo you might use to get there. feel free to pm if you like, black.

has any one tried header wrap after installing new down pipe .... to me sounds like heat related issue... also anyone notice glowing turbo after a hard run or two

I'm doing some heat wrapping this month (next week). I'm going to wrap the turbo exhaust housing, downpipe, apply heat reflective tape on my TMIC, turbo inlet, and wrap my MC CAI with a heat shield.

Don't know if it will help...we'll just have to see...

i know im kind of late with this whole issue but i was having the same problem with smoke coming out the exhaust after beng under boostthen idleing. i took it to the dealership (with my mods on) and they duplicated it. They ordered new turbo, gasket and everything and is going to fix it under warranty. hopefully i get a good turbo and the problem goes away. if it doesnt, hey, i got a new turbo out of the deal. =) but i dropped off the car today. they are overnight frieght shipping it and said it should be done by tomorrow evening. outstanding service. ill post again when i get the car back.

you think this problem would cause lost of HP and TQ?
