Calling all MS3 Owners with smoking Turbos...

Has anyone tried the Krank Vents to fix this problem? They are over $100, but I'm about to install my dp/rp combo and can't have this issue.....
 
its a mazda, it burns oil, get used to it =P, mine smokes at idle as well, it is wat it is, ill just put a bigger turbo on when this one dies

I am curious about this as well, can someone shed some light on this for me?
 
Synthetic oil has nothing to do with it as long as you use the correct grade. I've been running full synthetic since 1,000 miles...no smoke.

Now, if you had run 50-60K to 70-90K on dino oil and then wanted to switch, I'd probably say thats a bad idea...

Pressure with dino would probably be higher than with the synthetic....
 
weve talked about synthetics being to thin for the turbo seals maybe slipping past and creating smoke but im not to sure about the differences in pressures created by each oil and when they were used. i only had my originaly oil in for like 2k then went to syntec before anything could really have a chance to really work its ways into my motor. i ran M1 for about 15k then switched to royal purple. now im thinking of going to the penzoil plat. but am afraid of the theory there is wax in the oil. idk. ima stick with RP until. i havent had smoke and i have a full TBE....?
 
If you can afford it, there is almost nothing better than royal purple (and I say almost because I know not everyone will agree). Look at it this way, it's $6-12 for each oil change extra to use the royal purple over the penzoil platinum. Even if you are changing every 3 months, thats between 2 and 4 dollars a month bump to get the good stuff.

Good choice staying with the royal purple!

There are plenty of oils better than Royal Bull$hit... eerrr Purple, namely Redline and Amsoil and honestly, I'd rather buy Pennzoil off the shelf at any Advanced Auto than go pay a premium for Royal Purple.
 
Easy, ff all the oils mentioned are way better than standard oils. And to call bulls*** on Amsoil or Redline or the purple royal is a bit much if you have read up on film strength breakdown etc. Wait I need a beer too...

I didn't call bulls*** on Amsoil or Redline, just Royal Purple.

Some additives in oils are less or more suited to turbocharging seal pressures and temperatures. I imagine my seals will go right after my warranty expires. I am at about 25,000 now. Also I have some mods that folks think should send turbo into fail mode. Nope not yet and the car is driven to it's potential regularly. Was just into Mazda for the fuel pump upgrade and all went well. Very nice folks.
