cams

there are a few people running the "JDM" Mazdaspeed cams they are less agressive than the intergral cams...though people say its not recommended to use the "JDM" Mazdaspeed cams in the MSP, I am not sure why though. I will find out and get back to you about this one....also there are limited sets of "twiggy" cams but basically intergral mased their cams off the "twiggy" set.

ic well that kinda sucks..haha u know how much better the integral cams are than stock.. bout how much u gain off of them?
Later,

I am not sure about the Intergral Stage 1 cams, but with the Stage 2 duration= 264 and lift= .375" (9.52 mm).........As far as gaining goes.....cams are a supporting mod. so depending on what mods you already have done to your car will result in the "gain" from the cams.....

In my opinion, before you look into getting cams you should look into building the rest of your car first and saving the cams for later, like I said cams are a supporting mod.....I believe terbow has a sticky thread on the forums that give you the basics on having a good daily driver.....work off that and then move on to ported and polished head, for example from dana at speedcircuit.net. and then look towards investing money into cams. For the price of Intergral cams, you will get much more beneficial mods spending that money on your basic mods.

Theoretically, you will probably see about maybe 5-7 hp on your light wieght crank pulley, maybe 1-2 hp on your CAI, and probably another 7-9hp on your Apex'i Exhaust........so the gains now on the Intergral cams would possibly be very minimal.

where did it says that JDM intake cam is not recommended on MSP ??
As far as i know no one complain w/ the exception of ppl discousing abou the overlap w/ exhaust one which in my opinion is not a problem.
Not trying to dis. any one but if there's more into what you're saying I'd like to know as I too planing on getting a JDM intake cam.

where did it says that JDM intake cam is not recommended on MSP ??.
It says it on protegegarage website under the mazdaspeed cams set, but like you said i think it is because of the overlap. The jdm cams were designed for a n/a car. I ended up going with custom ground integrals, cant wait till there done being made.(rockon)

Well fellas for a sec you got me there. The one I was thinking of its the JDM MSP intake cam only which is sold by cs only to my knowledge so far.

For MSP - you could get the JDM MSP version intake cam as the exhaust is the same for both versions.

FYI i gained 22whp from a catless 3in exhaust on my protege.

Now hes freed up the exhaust. Why not open the valves a little longer? there is A LOT of power to be had in the protege cams you all just havent figured it out.. Although. I feel he should do a fuel system, ems, cams and fmic at the same time.

Hell i went 12.2 @ 111 with just cams, and catback and pump and tune on my evo Thats +1 sec and 80ish whp from stock. That didn't come from just the catback. Sorry.

However i would do ems and fuel before cams. Cams will drastically change the way your car needs to be tuned. I had to take some mad timing out of my car when i added cams although i made a lot more power.

Guys, I am not sayin not to run the JDM cams. if u reread what I wrote I am currently running both. I said there were talks of it not supposed to be ran in the MSP because it was originally meant for an N/A application.

and I was recommending get supporting mods first to see an even bigger power gain with the cams.

and kyspeed.....I was giving worst case power gains. that's why I said don't go by my estimates it could be more gains or less gains.

Yeah i'm with you i wouldn't run a NA cam in a turbo car. That just means your upgrading for a little leaving a lot on the tabel. Turbo cars love highlift cams. Do you have any idea on the stock protege vs the JDM na MSP spec

seriously man stop comparing the fs to a 4g63. they are 2 different motors that react to mods 2 totally different ways. before i would think about dropping cash on cams i would get other supporting mods to make full use of it like a fmic, intake mani, ems, ported head, and then i would get the cams

hah, comparing my 2g(t25) gsx to my protege, the protege reacted better to mods. Everything i put on it made it feel like a different car. I just hit a brick wall when my tranny had issues and there was nothing better to replace it with.

I know you guys have some good power hidn in your cam setups. However, i would attack the fmic, fuel, bottomend, and turbo first.

Cams will give you power, but a 28rs sounds and looks stock and will give you more.

K I know I started this thread and i'm not planning on doing cams soon i was juss curious to how much you potentionally could get and if there was any other cams to buy besides the integral, but hey thanks for all the info.
