All-New Toyota Venza Crossover Sedan To Premiere In Detroit

Hmmm, blah. All the noise for this. That target market is already saturated...

AWD, 5 Seater, tall, aims the Equinox and the Edge, that is an SUV to me, nothing really innovative here. If anything, will go against the Mazda CX-7...

That is FUGLY! Looks like a Murano and Edge crossbred to get this fatass.

If you're wondering just who the audience is for the new 2009 Venza, Toyota spells it out. The new crossover vehicle, patterned after the company's 2005 FT-SX concept and built on the Avalon chassis, is "ideal for active boomers and young couples with small families."

Designed and built in the U.S. and slated to hit dealers in late 2008, the five-passenger Venza will slot below the Highlander and above the RAV4 in Toyota's growing portfolio of car-based crossovers. Toyota hasn't announced prices, but it likely will be aimed at such mid-priced domestic models as the Ford Edge and the Chevrolet Equinox.

The '09 Venza will be offered in front- and all-wheel drive. Powertrain choices include a 268-horsepower 3.5-liter V6 and a new 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine, both mated to a six-speed sequential-shift automatic transmission.

Features include a center console with sliding cover that's large enough to hold a purse, an auxiliary audio jack as well as a storage compartment for an iPod, dual-zone climate controls and a six-disc CD changer.

Four-cylinder models get 19-inch wheels and tires, while V6 versions move up to 20-inch rims and rubber.

A navigation system, JBL premium audio system, rear-sear entertainment, smart key, backup camera, power tailgate and a panoramic roof are among the options.

Standard safety equipment includes antilock brakes, traction and stability control and seven airbags.

What this means to you: It's a crossover world, as consumers accelerate their exodus from thirsty truck-based SUVs.

So this is basically an Avalon wagon. It might actually move pretty well with the V6, but holy s*** is 2.7L a huge 4-cylinder. I guess it'd need some torque to move 19" wheels with a 4, though.

19" inch wheels on a "car" wagon with a 4 cyl, isn't that a bit ridiculous.

This Toyota "crossover" is full of fail, WHY do they feel the need to name it a Crossover, I mean even the CX-7 has ground clearance over most wagons.

This thing is a wagon, no if, ands or buts about it.

Not disagreeing, but I think my wagon perspective is different then ;) (Hey, if the Mazda5 is called a space wagon afterall (scratch))

To me this would be an Avalon type wagon (Toyota Avensis Saloon). Full-size wagon based on the sedan (the Mazda6 Wagon concept). No fancy SUVish height, just versatile and sedan type driving:

The Avensis is actually smaller then the Mazda6. It shares it chassis and motors with the Euro Corolla and its more of the size of the a Jetta. The Avensis shares the same chassis as the US Scion tC.

OK.... (sad2)... Damn, I'm running out of non-wagon arguments :D

My last argument:
Toyota hasn't announced prices, but it likely will be aimed at such mid-priced domestic models as the Ford Edge and the Chevrolet Equinox

If the Ford Edge and the Chevrolet Equinox are wagons, then what has the automotive World come down to (headshake (lol2)

There is even a Mazda5 MPV competitor based on the Avensis.

This is no more of a Wagon than your CX7....Is your CX7 a Wagon?
They're totally different, the styling( looks nothing like a Wagon ), seating position (most likely) and the ground clearance for one.

The only thing that makes the CX-7 comparable to a wagon is the fact that most both have Unibody construction.

No the CX-7 is not a wagon, this however offers absolutely nothing over the Impreza Wagon, and Mazda6 Wagon.

So it has more in common with a minivan. I'm being a brat.

CUVs and wagons are similar with their cargo hauling ability and being a 5 door hatch.

A CX-7 has 8.1" of ground clearance. A Subaru Outback has 8.4".

Dude, you don't have to be ashamed of driving a wagon.:p
