23, finished school in July. NDT technician. this year, from July 20-December 31, i made $30,000. next year, i will have 2 more certifications and will probably make $75,000. if i don't get any raises though, i will make $65,000-ish.

Anyone making 6six figures a year and works for a good company will not drive a Mazda or beat up winter car. Does not look good for company Presence.

I know that there are people out there that like to save money and do other things first. But it's just uncommon to work in (business company) makin close to six figures or more and drive a 86 Corolla.

People who do work in a (business company) know its all about (Presence).

Wow... where to start!

6 figures really isn't as much as you think... at least, not where I live. Here in CT, the avg house (2k sq ft, nice neighborhood, etc) costs about $400k... If you're the sole bread winner like me and are responsible for supporting a family, paying 2 car payments, the mortgage and all the other BS that comes with it... a low six figure income will just about cut it. All of a sudden, spending frivolously on a fancy german car to impress your (business company) and gain (presence) lol ... suddenly that sort of crap takes a back seat. Because most of the others you work with are in similar situations, nobody really cares. In fact, if you were to walk through my parking lot at work you'd see nothing but avg cars... accords, camrys, etc. meanwhile, most of their owners earn well into the 6 figure range. They're called priorities. Now... if I'm a single guy sharing an apt with someone or still living at home... yeah, I'm probably going to go overboard on my car (as most guys in those situations tend to do) Last time I checked though... cars (unlike most houses) depreciate rather heavily in value... So, even if you are in the so-called "wealthy enough" category, you're obviously better off driving a high bang for the buck car (like a mazda) and putting the money you would have spent towards an overpriced, unreliable german car into some investments or home-improvements... Read 'Rich Dad/Poor Dad' if you haven't already. Enlightening stuff

United States Coast Guard
OT- Officer Trainee/ E3 free medical and all that jazz
Coast guard pays for my college in return i go to OCS for them
right now i make 30000 after taxes and for the military guys are you guys factoring in BAH with or without dependents and BAS and all that. Those things make a huge difference in how much you make a year

sigh....
expired ASE Master Tech....stopped doing that when I got tired of shops wanting stuff 'patched' and not fixed.

went back and got a 2 yr degree in Network Tech....got a+ certified with network+ coming shortly and working in birmingham on helpdesk 3rd shift making a pitiful 24k a year with laughable benefits......and people ask me why i haven't done more to the car yet.

and yes, I'm looking to move somewhere better :)

That's such BS.

I know this guy Wolfgang who owns a huge automated robotics company and drives a 1990 F-150 w/over 200k miles. He's a multi millionaire.

You don't become rich by going into debt and spending all your money. That's what stupid people do when they start making a decent amount of money.

The people with the newer cars, and all their nice indebted things can kiss my ass, because when it comes down to debt to income ratio, I am much happier with my Mazda and 86 Corolla.

lame, this starts flares, i learned my lesson on income thread on the mazda3 section ;)

here's da thread http://www.mazdas247.com/forum/showthread.php?t=123685550&highlight=flipstylex

Glad you think it's lame to point out someone's foolish comments. I was actually pretty surprised they went untouched as long as they did. I realize it was a jack of an existing threadjack but someone had to point it out.

I'm guessing you're being sarcastic with your little "lesson learned" comment... considering you ended it with the condescending winking smiley face crap. lol Unfortunately, not everyone understands money as well as you so it's important to point certain fundamentals out from time to time... and yes, it's ok to make the same point on more than one thread.

But seriously... back to the topic at hand. This thread can actually present some value if, like Killer said, everyone is honest. Websites like salary.com are about as accurate as kelly blue book when it comes to actual salaries. (meaning, those numbers are crap) Having actual #s to go by for... I don't know, something like a salary negotiation or what have you... that's invaluable. On top of that though... it's just interesting.

One thing I have noticed though... some people seemed to misread the title of this thread to "Where do you work, how much do you make, how much do you think you'll make next year, and what is your 5 year plan?" lol I'm not complaining... most of those were more interesting than annoying... I'm just sayin! haha

well this fell to crap pretty quickly... sucks that some of us actually took this seriously
