Where do you work and how much do you make?

Work Valet at the Casino out here. I do pretty well for only working about 30 hours a week. Made $33/hr on new years eve. But I have no idea what I made this year. I get paid in cash everynight, and forget to write it down most the time. But usually make around $150/night * 4 nights a week * 50 weeks a year= around 30k

But in about a year and a half I will graduate from Eller (4th ranked MIS school in the US) with my MIS and OM degrees and should be making bank.

I own a casino and paid for my NSX in cash. Which I traded in for my Porsche 911-turbo.

I'm a software engineer and project manager. I make 80-100k depending on bonuses.

When it's below 10F, rainy, or icy, I drive my 2000 protege. Otherwise I ride my '99 Specialized Hardrock with fenders, a rear rack, and lights to work. That's presence as far as I'm concerned.

Wow... where to start!

6 figures really isn't as much as you think... at least, not where I live. Here in CT, the avg house (2k sq ft, nice neighborhood, etc) costs about $400k... If you're the sole bread winner like me and are responsible for supporting a family, paying 2 car payments, the mortgage and all the other BS that comes with it... a low six figure income will just about cut it.

6figures is enough for a Single man/woman or family up to four. I don't know what the annual income debt to ratio is over there but I live in "Cali". That should answer your response. Prices here ain't cheap either.

Anyone knows that its not about car's and other flashing what your all about and other bunch of bs. But when working for those high end business company's makin close or more than 6figures a year. Yet people who work in the business company industry tend to drive more of a middle class Acura/Honda/Infiniti to upwards towards somewhere in the basic low BMW/Mercedes presence.

Has nothing to do with priorities Not that its not important, because it is and that's what comes first. Everyone knows that. What I'm getting at is if your making close to 6figures or more a year. Most likely its important to represent yourself and your company.

I see Receptionist for Orthodontists driving low end Mercedes, Maxima's etccc..

More of an better example. For instance is it professional to go to work in the morning not taking a shower, brushing your teeth, dressing pretty descent smelling good. "NO its not". Everyone knows that its a priority to do and its being responsible and having a little bit of class, Im sure everyone does this in the morning.

Now what I'm relying at is that it's not important to Go out and spend 40K on a car just to floss around that you have money and blah..blah..blah.

Its just more common seeing someone here like 80-90% of the people here in cali driving Maxima's, Accords, Altima's, G35's, TSX's, low end BMW/Mercedes.

It has nothing to do with not having priority's.

I know a guy who makes $14.80hour Full-time Meat cutter and his wife makes $10.00hour.

They live in a 400K 2600square feet house in a nice wealthy neighborhood. Does that make them rich no, it's about priorities like you said and being responsible.

1.) him and his wife have no Cellphones, just house phone
2.) he drives a ford falcon and his wife drives a grand prix paid off
3.) no car payment
4.) they Have 6kids with 2 living at home others in college
5.) Only bills he said he has is his 1400monthly mortgage payment etc....etc

He makes $15.80hour $632 a weekX52weeks =32864year
Wife makes $10.500hour $420 a weekX52weeks=21840year

A combined income of =$54,704 a year together.

Seems to me they are doing pretty Wealthy. Just depends on how you manage your money. People have budgets just like everyone else.

All of a sudden, spending frivolously on a fancy german car to impress your (business company) and gain (presence) lol ... suddenly that sort of crap takes a back seat. Because most of the others you work with are in similar situations, nobody really cares. In fact, if you were to walk through my parking lot at work you'd see nothing but avg cars... accords, camrys, etc. meanwhile, most of their owners earn well into the 6 figure range. They're called priorities. Now... if I'm a single guy sharing an apt with someone or still living at home... yeah, I'm probably going to go overboard on my car (as most guys in those situations tend to do) Last time I checked though... cars (unlike most houses) depreciate rather heavily in value... So, even if you are in the so-called "wealthy enough" category, you're obviously better off driving a high bang for the buck car (like a mazda) and putting the money you would have spent towards an overpriced, unreliable german car into some investments or home-improvements... Read 'Rich Dad/Poor Dad' if you haven't already. Enlightening stuff

If i was Living at home driving a BMW/Mercedes and could afford it. Then i would go get my own place first. Most people know that. Why in the heck am i going to live at home driving a car that i can afford when my ass can afford to get my own place then. Really doesn't make sense.

I'm sorry if your the only one in your family making close to 6six figures and have trouble budgeting your money. That's your own problem!!

Making close to 100,000 a year is a monthly income of 8300-8500 a month.

If you can't survive off that monthly and are living paycheck to paycheck, your not being RESPONSIBLE!!

Im head of inbound operations @ a trucking terminal here is Chicago. I also handle all there W & I and OS&D duites. I work between 7 and 8 hours a day mon-fri and make my own hours. This year I made a hair less then 60K but next year I will get around 70 cause I will start getting W&I commision. Im 28 BTW.

I'm not trying to start a fight but this is just insanity!!

6figures is enough for a Single man/woman or family up to four. I don't know what the annual income debt to ratio is over there but I live in "Cali". That should answer your response. Prices here ain't cheap either.

Obviously whether or not 6 figures is "enough" for a "family of 4" is subjective... so I won't touch that one... yet.

As far as your "I live in Cali so I feel your pain" quite is absurd. California is what... the 3rd largest state??? Simply saying you live in Cali doesn't even come close to validating the notion that you live in an expensive area.

Now just to be clear... I'm not saying you don't. I'm simply saying you should have been more specific. Beverly Hills is a bit more pricey than Compton.

Holy s*** man... You need to watch more reruns of Frasier. You know... the show with Kelsey GRAMMAR!! haha

So it has nothing to do with priorities... even though that's what comes first (and everyone knows that). I do agree it's important to 'represent' your company with a positive image. But let's get something straight here. We're not talking about driving a Yugo or Rice mobile... you're not going to be thrown out of the board meeting because you drove into the parking lot in a Honda Accord.

I see Receptionist for Orthodontists driving low end Mercedes, Maxima's etccc..

And??? lol There's an EVO MR that's always parked at my local grocery store. Turns out, it belongs to one of the cashiers. If your point is that even people that don't make a lot can "buy" expensive cars and essentially be stupid with their money then.... touche!

More of an better example. For instance is it professional to go to work in the morning not taking a shower, brushing your teeth, dressing pretty descent smelling good. "NO its not". Everyone knows that its a priority to do and its being responsible and having a little bit of class, Im sure everyone does this in the morning.

LOL Dude... you're killin me here!! haha So you're saying pulling up in a late model Accord (as an example) is the equivalent of not showering, shaving, brushing one's teeth... basically, looking like a complete bum! lmfao You can't be serious... can you?

Now what I'm relying at is that it's not important to Go out and spend 40K on a car just to floss around that you have money and blah..blah..blah.

Now what you're relying at? hmm...

... I'm sorry if your the only one in your family making close to 6six figures and have trouble budgeting your money. That's your own problem!!

Who said I have trouble budgeting my money? The fact of the matter is, by driving relatively inexpensive cars (we have an Element and my MSP) we're able to make ends meet just fine. According to you, however, I should be driving around in a pimped out Beemer or something! Something tells me an extra $400+/month might make things a bit more difficult.

Making close to 100,000 a year is a monthly income of 8300-8500 a month.

If you can't survive off that monthly and are living paycheck to paycheck, your not being RESPONSIBLE!!

Seriously... you NEED to run for President. You will absolutely have my vote!! Apparently in your world, there's no such thing as taxes! Ahhh... to dream the impossible dream!!

Unfortuneatly, in the REAL WORLD, there are. so your $8300-8500 monthly income for 'close to $100k' is completely off.

To illustrate...

Let's say your salary is $90k (that's close to $100k right?) Now in your world, that would equate to about $6900/month. But obviously that's before taxes (and other adjustments) hit.

Without getting too ridiculous... (after all, everyone's situation is different) Let's just say you're missing out on 30% of your check. A lot of people (myself included) who are maxing out their 401ks and paying for healthcare will see even more... so this is probably a conservative number.

Now then... that $6900 has suddenly become $4800 whoa... Not quite the $8300 you had in mind.

But let's proceed... You've got a family of 4 so you need a fairly decent sized house. As mentioned, in my area a 2k sq ft in a decent neighborhood will easily cost $400k+ (actually a lot more but whatever) So the mortgage payment's going to be at least $2k/month.

That leaves our fictional (yet strangely familiar lol) family with $2800 left in the pot. Pretty good right? lol oh that's right... expenses!! We've got electricity, tv, phone, cell phones, blah blah blah.... We also need to eat... and let's not forget about having a little fun once in a while. Oh and cars... that's right! lol how could I forget? let's see.... Should we spend $700+/month on a fancy import thus ensuring we have 0 chance to save even a dime every month or do we go with a more reasonable choice?

Hopefully I made my point.

I was thinking the same thing but I wanted to keep it to myself...Im a SGT E-5 and to be making 50 g's plus is crazy for lower enlisted, not even CPT's make that in a year...But who knows, im not gunna argue but good point

Depending on his time in service and time in grade, he may be correct. I am an E-5 in the Army with 11 yrs in and pull home a few pennies over 50. The main variable is BAH/BAQ depending on where you live. There are also other allowances and status pays. The military is paying much better than it did when i first got in...especially when they send you to the sandbox and you get all of the combat associated pays, plus its tax free over there. Not worth it, but it helps.

I'm not trying to start a fight but this is just insanity!!
hahahh..

It doesn't take a genuis to figure out that cali is the most overrated state as far as taxes go and the debt to income ratio.

Now just to be clear... I'm not saying you don't. I'm simply saying you should have been more specific. Beverly Hills is a bit more pricey than Compton.

First off beverly hills/compton aint the only expensive place to live in cali, there's Frisco, Diego, sac town, Fresno...etc... I happen to fall in the category in the Central Valley outskirts of (Fresno).

2nd of all. I think you need to re-read what i posted as far as claiming income to debt ratio etc..etc..

So it has nothing to do with priorities... even though that's what comes first (and everyone knows that). I do agree it's important to 'represent' your company with a positive image. As i knew the simple smart ass statement you would have said because this one went right over your head(stooges).

LOL Dude... you're killin me here!! haha So you're saying pulling up in a late model Accord (as an example) is the equivalent of not showering, shaving, brushing one's teeth... basically, looking like a complete bum! lmfao You can't be serious... can you?

I love how you turn my statement and combine it into one with your sentence and not comprehending what is said. Dude are you having trouble reading my posts, or are you just the assclown that you are??

Please tell me where i said this. Once again Reading owns you. Let me rephraze what i said!! so you understand

1.) IF YOU WORK FOR A BUSINESS COMPANY INDUSRTY
2.)PEOPLE LOVE TO REPRESENT THERE IMAGE AND COMPANY BY DRIVING A NICE CAR
3.)MAKING ANYWHERE CLOSE TO 6FIGURES FOR A BUSINESS COMPANY, BUSINESS COMPANY, BUSINESS COMPANY, LET ME SAY THIS ONE MORE TIME. BUSINESS COMPANY

Heck i know people that don't even work for the business industry that drive nice ass car's. It's just common for people to represent there image and company. Is that a priority?? NO it's just common to see. Something you are not comprehending smart guy.

Hopefully I made my point.

Yeah some have validation to them, then there are just really stupid ones.

LOL wow... alright dude. you're obviously in way over your head here so I'm just gonna let this one die. take care

LOL wow... alright dude. you're obviously in way over your head here so I'm just gonna let this one die. take care

Its ok, he beleives that Cali is the most expensive place ever remember? I mean they dont say that CT has the gold coast for no reason. ;) (strike)

I was going to give him a real response but... then I wondered exactly what I was even responding to. lol it really didn't make much sense to me so I figured it best to let it die.

Since we're in the market for a new house (newborn twins = will soon need bigger house) I was on realtor.com when I read this... Though it's not a perfect indicator, it's apparent (after searching by his zipcode and leaving all the other paramaters the same) that the cost of owning a home there is significantly less than owning one here. He's probably going to read this and feel it's a knock! lol Trust me.. I'm definitely not proud of how expensive s*** is here. Just stating the facts... It does help me understand where he was coming from though. Based on what I saw out there, I could probably buy the type of house I need for at least $150k less. Assuming I'm making the same, that would lessen my mortgage payment by a cool G... thus giving me the option to drive to my BUSINESSS COMPANY!!! haha truly representing myself in a manner that's fitting my paycheck and thus gain that elusive 'presence' I've been searching for all these years.

Instead... I'll just freeze my ass off in CT and wonder what could have been.

LOL at you 2 putting words into my mouth!! I never said cali was the most expensive place to live. Have a good day kids(confused)

LOL at you 2 putting words into my mouth!! I never said cali was the most expensive place to live. Have a good day kids(confused)

LOL I was just adding fuel to the fire and didnt read the whole argument, but I agree Cali can be pricey but I feel that CT is underated besides the town that I live in. So you can laugh at me because I got a good laugh at this whole thing.

Umm... I just said the cost of owning a home where you live is signifantly less than it is here so I'm not really sure wtf you're talking about. Mr 4500 said that but... clearly he was being sarcastic.

Anywayz... as you can tell, I love a good debate. Unfortuneatly, this was rather one-sided but I do appreciate your effort. Take care.

Everybody does. Don't take this thread personal but its the truth!! I'm not flaming at anyone directly. Its the lack of communication what others aren't understanding.

My whole theory was that When in the (business industry) it's COMMON for people to drive the middle class luxury car's. Yet smart guy isn't comprehending!!(sad2)
