Where do you work and how much do you make?

Umm... I just said the cost of owning a home where you live is signifantly less than it is here so I'm not really sure wtf you're talking about. Mr 4500 said that but... clearly he was being sarcastic.

Anywayz... as you can tell, I love a good debate. Unfortuneatly, this was rather one-sided but I do appreciate your effort. Take care.

Your area where you live cost more than here. Good for you!! do you want a cookie or something!!

This isn't a debate about what area cost more. My whole agenda was to get my point across about the Business image, something you aren't comprehending....kappish!!

I was going to give him a real response but... then I wondered exactly what I was even responding to. lol it really didn't make much sense to me so I figured it best to let it die.

Since we're in the market for a new house (newborn twins = will soon need bigger house) I was on realtor.com when I read this... Though it's not a perfect indicator, it's apparent (after searching by his zipcode and leaving all the other paramaters the same) that the cost of owning a home there is significantly less than owning one here. He's probably going to read this and feel it's a knock! lol Trust me.. I'm definitely not proud of how expensive s*** is here. Just stating the facts... It does help me understand where he was coming from though. Based on what I saw out there, I could probably buy the type of house I need for at least $150k less. Assuming I'm making the same, that would lessen my mortgage payment by a cool G... thus giving me the option to drive to my BUSINESSS COMPANY!!! haha truly representing myself in a manner that's fitting my paycheck and thus gain that elusive 'presence' I've been searching for all these years.

Instead... I'll just freeze my ass off in CT and wonder what could have been.

I also feel that people should not over extend themselves in the form of debt and money spent. You should get a car that is to your means. Yes it would beb AWESOME to make 50k and have a home yet drive a European car. But it is not good at the same time.

Take this for example, I have been spoiled. My father makes a lot of money and I want to go into the social work field. I live a VERY comfortable lifestyle and live in a expensive town. I have two good/new cars that I feel is unheard of for a 23 year old unless you won the lotto. I know it will not always be like this for me and I am living this as much as I can. When I was in 8th grade there was this new kid in town and his dad owned a Hummer, before they became a fad and mainstream. Well I later found out a year later that his father chose to buy a hummer and have less money to buy a bigger home for his family. I have never been to his home but I was told it was nothing special for "a guy with a hummer". This is a clear cut example of living within your means. And why Americans are so into debt and high CC debt etc etc etc. The "baller" lifestyle is so wanted and emphasized but not everyone can afford it and those people who want it real bad badly invest their money and buy things they dont need etc etc. I will get off my soap box now annd didnt mean to go on a tangent.

But I feel that if you buy a Porsche because "you can" while you live in a 2 bed room apartment and can bearly make rent is RETARDED. That is all.

wtf? Did you NOT read the line in which I clearly state that it's in no way a knock against your area or something in which I'm proud of?!!! Quite the contrary really!!

But yeah.. I'll take a cookie. Mrs. Fields chocolate chip if you got em.

Everybody does. Don't take this thread personal but its the truth!! I'm not flaming at anyone directly. Its the lack of communication what others aren't understanding.

My whole theory was that When in the (business industry) it's COMMON for people to drive the middle class luxury car's. Yet smart guy isn't comprehending!!(sad2)

Dude... we both know what you really said so let's cut the BS.

Like I've been saying though... let's just drop it already. It was fun... but now it's old and stupid so move on.

European car's aren't the only car out there that are expensive!! There are others car's that can be had for about the same price. It's just more uncommon to see someone in a damn BMW M3 or Mercedes SLR.

Everybody needs help. It's nothing to be ashamed of when getting help from your parents, they do it for a reason. I'm sure when you get old you would help your kids in the longrun. Cause in the end when you old ass needs help from your kids. They will look back and see what you've done and open there arms up wide without a doubt.

I'm just sick of hearing this cry baby drama about how mommy daddy this pays for you and living at home bull-crap. Trust me nobody wants to live at home with there parents, but as long as they are helping you/them. In the long run it will payoff. You have something to look back on..........BTW: nothing against your post...lol

quite frankly true. But there are people out there like that. And that can afford to do this!! It's just they don't want to take Responsibility on taking on a Mortgage payment=(really huge).

Nothing is stupid its just a thread. No reason need to get butt hurt...lol

we all have our opinions!! yet you directly to it personal and confrontational are taking it wrong.

Haha tis funny you say this since my "fun" car now is an 98 M3 haha.

But yeah I was recently looking at new cars and prices have gone up. But then again so has standard of living and cost of living overall. BUT the most impressive thing is that the poverty line DOES NOT MOVE. But thats a different story. That is why I feel a BMW 328XI is a good BANG for the buck seeing that its price compared to many new vehicles. Anyway, moving onto some place else/tv or mario galaxy.

If they don't want the responsibility of a (huge) mortgage payment yet are OK with a huge monthly car payment... there's something seriously wrong.

I think what he was saying is that it makes no financial sense to rent an apt if you can afford a house. Trouble is, so many have their priorites upside down and feel it's more important to impress people with their (depreciating like a mofo) car than take on the responsibility of owning a house... something that, generally, will appreciate in value over time.

I was at a friends the other night... she just got out of grad school and is in debt up to her ears. She drives (ironically) a mid 90's corolla and lives in an apt complex. Nothing wrong with that... I just couldn't get over the amount of kick ass cars I saw in the lot. Clearly she can't afford to live anywhere but an apt. As for those people.... by owning a lesser vehicle, the $ saved could then be put towards a mortgage.

As M4500 said... this is the #1 problem with this country and the reason most are severely in the red.

Might not be the most popular stance to take on a car forum... but then again, this is a mazda forum not a bmw or what have you. Perhaps the thing I like most about mazdas in general is the fact that they look and feel like more expensive cars. To think I bought my MSP new for well under $20k... a car that people STILL mistake for a freakin EVO!! haha Gotta love it.

Belaboring an issue is stupid so we'll agree to disagree there.

As for my butt being hurt... not sure how you knew. Went a bit overboard with the squats today at the gym. Maybe you should kiss my ass. haha

I'm going to use my imagination and assume what you must've meant with that last line...

just so you're aware, I don't take anything on a board like this personal. If I came across a bit confrontational, I appologize. I was merely making a point. Admitedly, I can sometimes get a bit too fired up for my own good.

No!! Some people aren't ready to buy houses I had a friend who was like this. He was in college getting his AA degree in business and working as a Night Manager at Vons making well enough money!! He drove a nice ass Lexus IS300. When the time came around and if he ever wanted to move, he wouldn't have to worry about trying to sell the house and deal wit the mortgage payments. He lived in a 2bed 1bath appt paying $950month.

I can relate to what your saying but it all ways doesn't come out this way. I hope your not the type of person who judges a book by its cover. There are so many variables in someones life.

Then money isn't her friend and having responsibility's. You know what you can afford and what not. It's simple!!

QFT....I love my MS6 and any other mazda's!!

It recently beat out, amongst others, the G35... rather handedly in a C&D (or maybe it was MT) comparro. This, despite the G's 60+ hp advantage.

Thing that scares me about beemers is the reliability though. So many people I know b**** and moan about having to always bring them into the shop. Guess I'm partial to Japanese cars so, even though it lost by a wide margin, I'd probably still go with the G if I had $40k burning a whole in my pocket.

c'mon take it like a man.............lol J/K

Sounds like you had fun, but I'll pass on wit the butt kissing. I don't think my wife would like that too much!! lol

Yeah that(yippy)

I am not talking about the big daddy 335 though, but for 33k ish base model with awd and it being a bmw with free service for the first 4 years (with thhe exception of tires and rotations I beleive) its an awesome bang for the buck.

Admitedly, I was generalizing. Clearly there are certain situations that make it at least acceptable to own an expensive car while pissing your money away on an apt. Your friend's situation might be one. He's obviously a car guy but not ready to deal with the responsibilites of owning a house/condo. Financially speaking (since the IS was/is a $35k+ car) it probably would have made more sense to get a lesser vehicle and bank/invest the difference (we're talking at least a few hundred/month) but I won't argue with that... Hell, I could see myself (my younger self) doing the same thing.

In actuality, I was referring to people that were a bit more set. People still in college that are unsure of where they'll land once they're done wouldn't fall into this category. People that have steady jobs and are rooted into their community would. These are the people that (assuming they can afford to) need to get their priorites in check and figure out a way to buy a house/condo instead of piss their money away on an apt. The appreciation factor combined with the tax savings make it beyond a no-brainer.

LOL alright... enough of this s***. I think I watch too much Suze Ormon!! haha later man

That service they offer is pretty sweet... as long as it's convenient. The nearest beemer dealership for me is more than a few towns away so that's a factor to me.

As for tire rotations... s***... I just bring my car to townfair and they do it for free. What's nice is it's right next to the oil change place I go to so I usually just get em done at the same time.

oh and it was the 328i they compared to the G. I thought it was odd too but then researched the 335 and saw that it was a lot more expensive.

Since I'm more of a fan of driving dynamics/handlign than I am in acceleration... if it wasn't for my perception of bmws reliability, I'd definitely go for the 328 over the 300+hp G. They describe it as being nearly flawless... truly the ultimate driving machine. when it's not being serviced that is.

Ah right, I have driven a G35 sedan in auto and I was impressed. But I also have a E36 M3 and love that to death I am keeping it for awhile to come. It would be a hard choice honestly between the G series and the 3 series. But I feel that I would chose the 3. I have had ZERO issues with the BMW. It was my dads and I got it, it has like 63k miles on it and ZERO ISSUES. This is the second M3 my dad has gone through. Most reliable cars. Only issue is a common problem with the convertible top and one with the A/C unit a year ago, but other then that its been pristine. I would recomend it since it is an AWESOME driving expierence and none has given me that. I have driven the whole new flagship two years ago and it was impressive. There is nothing like a BMW I will tell you that much. But it is rather expensive. A equal comparison would be with purses and woman. Woman want Gucci and D&G but you can get it at Walmart prices know what I mean?

yes military base pay is s***, really. but after youve been in a while and you draw on other things like BAH, sea pay, and hazard duty, it gets better. but as someone said, not worth it. especially if youre trying to start a family.

This is all public info, and your tax dollars at work.

Hazardous duty/combat zone pay is $250/month and you pay no taxes while in the designated areas.

Family separation allowance is $250/month when married and/or claim dependants (kids) and deployed longer than 30 days

Sea pay goes up every year you are attached to a ship, starting out at like $120/month the first year, $160/month the second, $380/month the third, and $400/month the fourth
