update on ticket for illegal tint. S**t got flagged down this morning coming off the H-3 for tint. Not speeding not doing anything but Erving to school. Illegal tint $287 x 9 windows = $2583 WTF. What dick I'm contesting. Watch out good luck and happy driving.

He can't give you a fien for each window and i doubt that he tested each window as well.
How can it be 9 windows? I thought there was only a legal limit on the driver door and front passenger door windows.
Everything back from that should be as dark as you want.
At least that's how it is here.

yup made me roll all my windows half way up and he even tested the two small windows in the back and made me open my trunk. Gots 20% tint all the way around. Its $287 a window 9 tickets total. I contested (wrote a letter) saying I bought the car used with the tint already on (true) and ive never been pulled over before (true) so there was no way for me to know that my tint was illegal. Legal tint is 35% +or- 6%. Will let everyone know the outcome as soon as I get a reply from the courts.

Giving you a citation for every window sounds like BS to me. Check with a shop that does tinting, they'll probably know the law as well as anyone. Then at least consult with an attorney so you'll know if you have a shot at beating this.

I believe it's written in the Hawaii Revised Statutes and Administrative Rules somewhere. Yes, it's nine (9) windows for the P5 minus the windshield which should not be tinted at all w/ the exception of like four (4) inches on the top part of the windshield at 35% as well. And yes, it is 35% (give or take a small percentage for different brands of tint, etc) here w/ the exception of trucks back windows. On the car door, it will state what kind of vehicle it is, i.e. Passenger, etc. All passenger vehicles are 35% all around including those little windows and four (4) inches on the front windshield.
My understanding is your best bet is to professionally (a professional will give you a certificate of autheticity, well the guy who did mine had a certificate and all of his shops information on there w/ warranty on the tint for a year) strip that tint off and have it done correctly at 35%, take a picture w/ something like an Advertiser paper showing the date you corrected the issue and present it to the court. If it is your first offense...they may give you slack on the ticket.

WOW! I don't think I ever cited anyone for EVERY window on there car. Even if they were acting like a jackass to me. Just for the record you can get cited for every violation (ie. every window) but usually it would be done to guys who have double 5% tint all the way around as well as a blacked out windshield. But in your instance the officer was just being nitpicky especially if that is the only reason he pulled you over. Crazy!

Man, I am sorry to hear... I guess on a brighter note, he could have tagged you for recon and you tv screen and whatever else. I would take Vern's advice and strip your tint and take pictures. Make sure the pictures have a date stamp on it also.

That is a whole new topic we can go on about... lol.
Basically, if you do anything to your car, you need to get a reconstruction (recon) permit or you get a nice fine. Most modified cars don't get it (like me) because there is a lot of gray area with the definition of what is "modified". I failed because my stock fog lights were too big...

I would have gladly well maybe not gladly accepted the recon ticket... I don't drive with my screens open anymore. Anything would have been better than tint... Hopefully the courts let me slide on this one being i have a good driver rating and never recieved a ticket yet in this car.

yup that's the one... in fact its the most expensive cite you can get that is posted on the ticket... It's cheaper to hit a parked vehicle (if the owner doesn't press charges) and even then that's why you have a deductible. as soon as i get paid im going legal tint all the way around... and if it does come down to going to court im going to show them that i corrected the infraction.

I even kept my millitary manner and replied to everything with "yes sir" "yes officer" "no sir" "no officer" and still no slack... i think he hit me up with tint because it costs more than anything else posted on the ticket. It appeared to me that's the only reason they were flagging people over cuz they were stopping one after another and testing there windows.

Like $287 wasn't enough for the tint I gotta pay $70 for not having recon for the freakin rims. I need to get recon cuz i just fixed yhe tint today with my measly army reserve pay. Any help on getting recn would be appreciated. So if anyone in teampro5 can let me borrow some parts so i can pass recon hit me up thomas @ 3884181
