Nooo not more codes.

Still need to replace the rear O2 sensor, but now I have a P0401 for insufficient EGR flow. Just glad it's not a bad pre-cat. I've seen this code before and it never came back. I've heard bad things about working on the EGR for these engines. I wonder what will happen if I clear the code and just ignore it![]()
Your O2 sensor code should go away after you replace the sensor.
The EGR can be a PITA.
If your burning oil, you send unburt oil through the EGR valve where it condenses and makes the valve stick.
Some guys have to clean their valve every year.
If you do clean it, you'll need a stubby screwdriver (with a JIS screwdriver bit) or stubby 1/4" ratchet handle.
(I'm mixed up with the IAC?)
It's a b**** to do but once you've done it the first time, the next time is way faster and will be part of your yearly maintenance.
If you don't want to clean it yearly, there is the "Canadian" EGR valve available that will fix your problem for good.
(but it's a PITA to install.)
It's got coolant lines hooked up to it so it doesn't get fouled...
It's not just a Canadian problem, but we were first because it gets pretty chilly up here. Lol
You should be OK to clear the code and forget it, but it can end up getting so bad that your car will stall and won't resart.
PS...
That EGR valve isn't listed for the protege5 at Rockauto.
It is only listed for the protege.
I talked to a mechanic who installed a few of them on P5's, and he said there was no problems.
