The blue daily had it's annual inspection / Warrant of Fitness on Monday.
Failed
spare wheel wasn't secured and the passengers rear brake caliper was leaking.
284,400 kms and the poor thing is showing it's age now
Apparently good second hand calipers are getting really rare here, so my slightly dodgy spare has gone on and the leaky unit is getting a rebuild
About 30 minutes from start to finish for a caliper replacement now!

You can’t use regular length shocks with lower springs because you’ll spend too much time at the compression limits and blow out the seals. Especially the terrible KYB’s. We used to call them pogo sticks.
While I agree with DiamondDave's statement I will add that that is more evident on something lowered more than 1.5". The H techs are like 1" and are far less susceptible to premature wear. Most likely theyre just stiff from everything being new. Give it a few hundred miles and itll soften up a bit.
The ride is a little stiffer but far from a pogo stick. An inch drop does not really necessitate short stroking the shocks, that is why I specifically chose the H.Tech of the S.Tech.
Installed Moog tie rods and camber bolts and did an alignment. Wow, turn in is much more crisp.

Replaced a cracked fog light cover on one side and replaced the fog light bulb on the other. It is much easier to take the tire and bumper off rather than trying to work with the bumper in place. Sadly some clips were sacrificed during the removal process. : (
Tomorrow, trouble shoot some back rotor vibration (can feel it on the brake pedal) on some new rotors. Wish me luck!!

I sadly missed my estimate of pulling into my driveway at 260k yesterday by one mile
This will be the last major milestone for this cars life at this point. I drive my miata or mk4 tdi much more often and after nearly 12 years of reliable service, the p5 is really just back up transport.
I replaced the heater core hoses in it the other day to get rid of that leak though finally!

thanks! I know a lot of the rust is on me just not taking care of it like I could with regards to regular winter washing and such. Really a shame since the motor, transmission, and clutch are still all original and work absolutely great. Consumes oil but just top it off and keep driving! Just wish it rode smoother but even new suspension didnt fix it
Yea I feel the same way. It's. Really fun car but everything else is such a bummer. The newer mazdas doesn't seem to offer the same "fun per dollar" as the p5. The only real rust that I have are the door trims and it's almost rusted through. Every blue mazda that I found at pick n pull all have rust in the exact same area.
The rear wheel wells are one of the worst spots for rust.
This is my parts car...
It helps to cake grease on that lip/ledge around the wheel well. It's messy but it helps. That lip always fills up with dust and dirt then when it gets wet, it stays wet for days, maybe weeks.
