Mazda 5 Turbo

Mazda 5
Hi

As this is my first post, hello to everyone.

Sadly I am posting as I have a problem. We bought a Mazda 5 in 2007, it was a one year old car previously owned by Mazda Bank here in Germany. It is 145 PS diesel model. Until now, no problem and all services were made on time without issue.

Now it drives sluggish and my wife takes it to Mazda service center. They said "Turbolader" is broken, not repairable. The mew part about 1500 EURO and about the same to fix.

There is about 96,000 km on clock.

What would you do?

Is it dangerous/damaging to drive without turbo for a period? We had planned a holiday this weekend which will involve 1200 km round trip?

Any chance to complain to Mazda - I presume the part is rated for >100km ?

Those prices sound realistic?

I can but this part second hand and it would likely be OK?

TIA

We in the west don't have a diesel version of this vehicle, therefore we are unable to give realistic advise on the turbo issue you're having. That being said, I think 3000 EURO ($4,219.00 US dollars @ today's conversion) sounds outrageous for this repair.

Not sure how mechanically inclined you are, but a turbo swap on a gasoline (petrol) engine from my perspective should be less than $1000 US dollars easily. The problem is finding the part. Since deisels are more prevelant on that side of the pond, I'd think that the parts would not be hard to find.

Also, turbos can be overhauled for hundreds, not thousands of $. This should be done professionally as there will be specialized balancing equipment involved. But then again, I have no idea what services are available to you over there.

turbo rebuild is probably best done for about $400-500
I believe for the european area, the best place to get a rebuild is http://www.melett.com
unfortunately, I don't know what model turbocharger is on the MZR-CD 2.0 diesel. I only know that it's a variable nozzle turbo
what year is your car? there's a bunch of MZR-CDs.
I would guess it's an IHI RHF4V... but it MIGHT be the 4B which is a ball bearing turbocharger.
