CX-5 Turbo water pump leak?

Mazda cap was $30+. I replaced mine (at the 11 year old mark) with this Sankei KH-C17 cap. much more affordable.

I still have my original cap on, I just bought one for when I swap out the antifreeze sometime in the following weeks. You gotta ask what the difference is between the Mazda and say a Stant which is about half the price. Anyone know what the new rev was all about?

With aftermarket parts being a crapshoot these days, the difference may be that the Stant of yesteryear isn't the same as the Stant of today in terms of quality. I've learned to pick and choose using OEM Mazda or quality aftermarket, preferably Japanese, and from suppliers who OEM to manufacturers. Performed at ~ 71k miles (proactive replacement- no failures) for cooling system were OEM Mazda radiator hoses and thermostat. Sankei radiator cap.

Years ago on two different vehicles I experienced severe overheats ( luckily no apparent engine damage but one of them happened on a 20*F day and meant not making it home for Xmas the next day 500 miles away plus financial outlay) and won't trust a potential overheat on an aluminum block and head engine using common parts store parts. Guess I'm a bit "gun shy" about some things.

Totally agree. When it comes to drive line parts it's OEM, except engine oil. Years ago I had a Corolla with high mileage , over 300k, when the starter finally quit. The parts guy at the Toyota dealer warned me about after market starters for this but I didn't listen. I "saved" $150 on an aftermarket. Well, that starter got replaced 3 times in he course of a year before I put out the money for an OEM. I'll put the money out for drive line OEM parts now and save myself time later down the road. It's not a lesson I learned with my LCAs unfortunately.

Interestingly, I learned my lesson about cheap starters back in the early 1980's when a cheap auto parts chain store "reman" chewed up the flywheel on my boat tailed '73 Riviera with a big 455. Didn't save any money buying that cheap starter considering I had to source a ring gear and then drop the trans to install it on the torque converter. I will say that back then, NAPA carried some beautiful quality remans under their Rayloc brand and that's what got installed.
Regarding my CX-5, if it needs a starter and the OEM Mazda is too ridiculously priced (haven't checked) I'd be looking for a reman Denso. Same with alternator.
I don't want some chain store starter etc with unlimited warranty. I'm not looking for a lifetime supply of junk, just want it fixed right the first time. If circumstances dictated it, I wouldn't be thinking about how much money I saved if I had to lay in the snow to change it. That'd be in my younger years. Today it's a call to AAA.
