Love Bugs

I'm going to be moving to Florida the middle of next week and am concerned because this is the beginning of the "Love Bug" season. You know those stupid annoying bugs that fly around in two's and are all over the place. Well their bug juice is very hazardous to a cars paint and if you leave it on the car for over a couple of days, it leaves permanent damage. They also will clog the radiator and over heat the car because there's so many of them.

I was wondering what you guys in the deep south do to counteract this problem, especially in Florida. What do you do to protect your cars. I need to know before I take Claire out of the garage. LOL

I don't know about the radiator, but there are 2 camps when it comes to protecting your front part of the car: a Front Mask vs. see-through-plastic-paint-guard film.

We get lots of bugs on the highways here in NJ too so the front mask is really nice - all the bug splatter is on the vinyl and not on the paint. It takes just one wipe w/a wet towel to get the bug remains off of the mask.

The only areas that aren't protected are the mirrors and the scooped portion of the fogs and the area before the moonroof.

Did you try a search on the topic? I remember reading a similar question a couple of weeks ago.

I have heard that a thin coat of PAM cooking spray will help keep the bugs from sticking. Susposedly it wont hurt the car because its only vegetable oil.

I have used PLEDGE furniture polish on my Ninja and it helped.

For the car I would recomend a wash and a good wax, ie. a carnuba type wax.

Also keep some RAIN-X on the front windshield. But don't put RAIN-X on the headlights its not good for plastic.

Watch out for those kamakazie bugs because they aint got the guts to do it again.

Later,

Bill

i dunno. . .but i wax on a regular basis and i wash my car every week. . .. it also helps that i don't go on the interstate that much so the slower speeds save me $ and keeps my car cleaner. . . . .

yea. . .love bugs are gay. . . .you really don't need to worry about it that much at least from my 3 years in this state. .
