Hi,
Well Im driving a MSP 2003.5 and boosting at 11 psi. My mecanic told me that the stock gasket intake couldnt take the higher boost. SO my question is, where can I get an upgraded gasket intake and would you guys have brands recommended ??

BS, he just want to open up your wallet. Now if he's referring to the head gasket you could get a cometic one but the oem one is fine at that boost level as well.

+1 your mechanic doesn't know what he's talking about.

Why was your car at his shop anyway?

Lolllllllllllllllll, well my car was there because I have a Vacuum leak. I replaced it once(part cost about $20 + labour). Then I noticed that my car was idling weird...so took it back there and he tells me that the stock intake gasket is not strong enough for the level of boost I have. So I have to get a performance intake gasket to get rid of this problem....

Yeah, this guy is taking you for a ride.

If it's idling funny, it's entirely possible that he didn't fix your vacuum leak either.

Get a new mechanic.

how many miles on your car? You could have a leaking intake gasket and it may need replacement, that is a common thing on the reg protege's when they get high milege.

Well its a MSP 2003.5 and it has 70 000 KM(Canadian here) lollll...
Actually, I'll explain the situation. When I boost and hit the clutch to shift gears, the RPM will drop all the way down 0. Sometimes it'll just come right back up to normal RPM but other times, it'll just stall on me....(uhm)

Ah, the most common failure of all on MSP's, and it seems to be happening to EVERYONE right now. Do you have a check engine right now?

Open the hood. There is a vacuum line running to the wastegate actuator (only hose running to the turbo) pop it off the T it connects to and blow into it. If you can blow any air into it at all, your wastegate is ******.

Go to protegegarage.com and order a "stock replacement actuator", it's about $65 bucks. Replace. Drive happy.

Dude, big ups for that info, I'll check it out after class. Thanks again for the info, I'll let you guys whats good with the car.

PS: I do have a blow off valve that vents to atmosphere, does that make a difference ?

Yes if you vent to atmosphere without another by pass valve the car will stall, If you don't have a relocated maf sensor. If you could take some pics of the engine bay it would help a bit.

yeah pics.... I love pics. And you say if you can blow any air into the WG line its bad....hmmm. Even a tiny bit o'air? need to check mine later.

Well, I think I figured it out. I think my boost controller was not well adjusted. The low and high boost were set too high...does it make sense ?!?!?!

(fight)

Alright, here are some pics of my setup !!!
