Wow - what sound... what is this?

A CX5 reversed right next to me (in my CX5). I just had to get out and talk to the guy. His vehicle (same year/trim as mine) sounded rich baritone. He smiled and said I have "racing beat". Now - I didn't want to look like a dummy so smiled back. What did he mean?

Racing Beat is a SoCal manufacturer of speed components for Mazda. They make an exhaust for CX-5.

Paris - thank you. I just looked up - wow they run quite a penny: +$450! I consider my CX-5 exhaust to be near perfection already.

Luckily, you don't suffer from the Harley syndrome.

Does this exhaust result in elevated zoom zoom??

That's a fair price for an exhaust made to fit the vehicle. Some people like a bit more growl.

The catback for my QX will cost me at least $1,500.

while i understand your sentiment, there is a huge difference between an aftermarket exhaust system specifically designed for a car, and some kid welding on a cheapo fart can muffler. the aftermarket may not be tuned for all gears/rpms, but they do offer an alternative to the stock systems.

the CX5 exhaust sounds decent under throttle, but pathetic simply idling away.

$450 is not that bad and their stuff is pretty good quality and not too loud.

Just as comparison my old RX7's downpipe custom mandrel bent was about $200. This is a 3" 3 foot long pipe with a O2 bung on it.
Catback exaust at muffler shop was $500 for a Magnaflow can (yes it was loud but not droning plus the cat cut a lot of noise out... kinda...). This is a pretty simple setup with a 3" pipe with a few kinks on it and a exhaust hanger welded on.

For giggles my friend with a Supra got a turbo back titanium exhaust. Sounded like CRAP but this 9 foot long 4" sewer pipe weighed like a whole 35lbs! (Edit: Holy crap, only about 17lbs!)
It also set him back about $1,800....

Racing Beat is an important aftermarket manufacturer for Mazda. They have a storied history of working with Mazda. They even helped Mazda with the Mazda CX-5 SEMA concept cars, which is where their CX-5 exhaust was first seen. They make good quality aftermarket parts for Mazdas with a focus on refinement. Their products are a little pricey, but they are good stuff. The volumes of their exhausts are generally not "juvenile" loud. Just loud enough to enjoy driving and not annoy anyone else on the street.

If I had $500 lying around I would get a Racing Beat exhaust for our CX-5.

Couldn’t agree more. Excellent products from an excellent company!

LOVE Racing Beat's products!
they've been a great partner to Mazda and it's owners for a long time always making quality products that they stand behind. At one point I ran their header, cold air intake, and catback exhaust on my RX-8.

at the end of the day $450 is a fairly reasonable price to pay for a good exhaust.

1st of all...the racing beat exhaust is sweet.

2nd I did hear a skyactiv engine with aftermarket exhaust one time. Elder fellow in his 60's in a 2014+ Mazda6 filled up gas as a station. He drove unto the street and peeled off. Not sure what brand but man skyactivs really do sound good with just a simple catback.

Not that I want to do it but I want to hear our 2.5l with stick exhaust but resonator delete.

So so sounding to me

Each to their own

Me, too. Deeper, but not pleasing. You just can't make a 4 cylinder engine sound good. They fart.

If it increased performance, it'd be worth considering, but they make no claims that it does, so it probably doesn't.

I was going to say it sounded like farting but thought I would be the only one who thought this

what a bunch of mary's..... lol. i will concur its hard to get a 4 banger sounding good, but the racing beat is hands down one of the best i've heard for a NA 4 cylinder application.

x- if you think that sounds like farts, me thinks you haven't delved into the world of aftermarket exhaust systems much.
