So I went to the dentist today for a checkup on my wisdom teeth my bottom 2 need to be pulled out but.... how they are positioned and how small my mouth is the 2 teeth are right there on my nerve line in my mouth. And I have to go to a specialist for this. And my dentist said since there are right on my nerve line sitting there so close that if they were pulled there is a high chance of my bottom lip and tongue going numb for the rest of my life

Has anyone had a problem like this before if so. how did it go?? I kinda dont wanna get em pulled now

Whoa. Thats scary. I had all 4 of mine pulled and they were impacted. It sucked but I got over it. They never told me I had to worry about nerve damage though. i was really swollen for about a week.

Yea I dont like the idea of nerve damage that would suck !! My one boss at one of my jobs he had some work done on his teeth and the denitst ****** up and hit one of his nerves now his eyes are sensitive to light. And he has to wear these big black glasses that cover his whole eye area and everything.. My boss sued but man oh man the rest of your life??

I wish you the best of luck. Honestly though I wouldn't worry too much. Chances of something like that happening are probably pretty slim. They do that sort of procedure all the time.

Coalette, I don't know your specific case, but I'm pretty sure that warning is the same thing I got. All 4 of mine were impacted & had to be surgically removed by a specialist. Luckily, I got general anesthesia...some people I know just got local. Anyway, before they did it, they made me watch a video about the potential risks involved. I believe that they had to cut away some of my bone to get at mine & when they do that, they could potentially hit a nerve. In the video, it said that if that happens, your jaw could be numb for the rest of your life or that you could even die. I was just as freaked as you are when I heard that because I thought it was just going to be a simple, risk-free procedure. Turns out I was right & everything went fine. Basically, it's just like any major surgery...they have to inform you of all the things that could potentially go wrong. Just get a good specialist & you'll be fine. If you aren't sure, my advice is to get a 2nd & 3rd opinion. You should consider yourself lucky that you only need 2 removed. :D

Yeah, all 4 of mine were impacted as well, but I have a big mouth so they didn't have that much of a problem getting them out. But, in your case, would you rather have a deformed jawline and permanent pain in your mouth, or run the risk of having your lip go numb for the rest of your life? I would definitely choose the numb lip. Wisdom teeth = teh suxor

Indeed Im gonna get some diff. referrals just to make sure.. I guess i can see what the specialist says too..

I'm kind of in the same boat. My parents spent a shitload of money on braces, widening my mouth etc because my mouth/jaw was really narrow, and they wanted me to have a nice smile. My freshmen year in HS, one day, I tried yawning, and couldn't open my mouth that day/week. And the rest is history. TMJ. My mouth makes snapping/cracking noises (bone on bone) when I open too far, my normal bite allows me to stick my tongue through my teeth. So I have trouble eating sandwiches, pizza etc with my front teeth.

So my current dentist keeps telling me I should have jaw surgery, because only 2 of my molars make contact when I bite, and I'm wearing away my teeth horribly. The problem is A) insurance doesn't typically cover TMJ related surgery, B) Its a long procedure of 2 years of braces after wisdom teeth removal, and then the surgery, followed by another year of braces, and C) my friend had it done and he said it was the worst thing he's ever gone through. Ate through a straw for a month. Swolling took 2 months to go away. Basically they'd break parts of my upper and lower jaw and re-align them.

Hard decision. Still need to see somebody about wisdom teeth though. It would be a b**** to take mine out because my mouth doesn't open very far, and when it is, its extremely hard to get at my upper wisdom teeth. UGH.

:D

If you gotta get them out, then you have no choice! Sucks I know. All 4 of mine were removed at once and they were all embedded. My mouth is small and I had to get braces before middle school, so they had to drill and s***. It was a procedure I'll never have to go through again (thank God), but one problem was Demerol. It made me very nausaus. Every time it would stop bleeding, I would start puking.(sick) One last thing to make you cringe! It was a couple of months when I was back in school when someone shared his sunflower seeds. They weren't seedless so you had to bite the shell to get to it and I bit in and a sliver of shell went in to the upper back area where one of the embedded ones was at! It hurt really bad and I literally had to stick my finger in and pull it out! Good luck!! hee hee

Luckily, the "holes" in your gums that they dig your teeth out of will close up over time & you won't have to worry about stuff like that ^^^ forever.
