wiper replacement - are you happy with OEM blades?

Surprised you don't like the RainX. I have used it on every car I have owned for at least the last 25 years and will continue to do so as I am very pleased with the performance. On the highway I barely have to use the wipers.

It's good if you're on a highway. I do a lot of back road driving in some pitch black darkness and when a car comes towards you in the rain with the wipers on it makes their headlights throw a lot of glare. I do use it for the side windows.

Rain-X is a silicone based product that will wear off the windshield rather quickly. If not applied correctly and evenly it can contribute to streaking wipers. I used to use rain-x but it was a paint to always clean and re-apply every 2 months or so. I've since switched over to Trico view or Aquapel. Those products form a chemical bond with the windshield and they last for 6+ months and don't wash off like rain-x. I've treated my windows last year and just now need to re-apply, it was a weak winter and didn't see a lot of snow and crap over the winter months.

Question for Trico/Aquapel users: Would you use RainX washer fluid with Trico/Aquapel-treated windows?

There shouldn't be any harm in doing so. I have few jugs of it in the garage I picked up at Costco but haven't put it in the CX-5 yet as every time I go to the dealer for oil changes they fill me up.

That's very interesting. Thank you for that information!

Thanks. I asked because I picked up some Trico based on recommendations from this thread, but have RainX washer fluid in the car, and it will be a while till I reach empty on the reservoir.

I use Aquapel once a year in fall (amazing stuff), and also have RainX fluid (although I don'f feel it does much). No problems here. In fact, the Aquapel is so good I barely need to use washer fluid at all...

Just very surprised at all the negatives posted here about RainX, I love the stuff and have used and recommended the it for years and years. When I owned my own company I used it on the work trucks. Never a complaint, always praise.

I guess you mileage may vary.

Not trying to be negative. I used to use it when I was doing a lot of highway driving in an older vehicle with an unreliable wiper motor and had good results with it. But the "radar" sweep is a good description of what I'm seeing. Don't know if it is in fact improper application or just the nature of the stuff.

My wife and I got Mazda's two years ago, she got a Mazda 6 Sport and I got a CX-5 GT and I found the wipers just didn't hold up well, may 5-6 months and I would have new inserts put into them. On Subaru's in the past the wipers seemed to last a lot longer. Not sure if its the design or the material. Still the rain sensing feature is great and has did wonders while I had it. Traded it last fall, but will be looking at a new CX-9 Signature next spring.
