WHY is it that.......

Well yesterday I took a 08 WRX sedan for a test drive. I wanted to see what it was like. I am somewhat impresed with it. It seemed to get going pretty quick. suspension had a little body roll, but cornered good. Interior wasn't bad looking. LET me add this though, I have not driven or rode in a MS3, so I dont know how they feel. But my question is this? The MS3 had 264 hp and280 tq. The WRX has 224hp and 227tq. How is it that the WRX runs right with the MS3. With 40 more hp it should be quicker, plus all the torque. Is the AWD that good. Although WRX's in previous years have been known for the "weaker" transmission. Car shifts fine, but you should not launch the car on pavenent due to trans stress and you cant banng gears.BTW I asked this after watching this

The only reason it runs with the ms3 is because it gets a good launch with its awd.If the wrx was front wheel drive it would not even be close.

Hey are you from dearborn heights?I grew up in plymouth till I was 12 years old.Ill be in milton next month.The women are hot in Mi.,I love going back there.

Awd plays a big part but you have to rev it high and launch it hard to avoid bogging, which is tough on the tranny and clutch. The ms3 limits boost in 1st and 2nd to compensate for fwd traction issues/torque steer so it's not making rated power until 3rd. If you have an ms3 driver who knows how to launch it and a wrx driver who's concerned with repair costs then the wrx loses some advantage and from a roll the wrx has no advantage. I'd personally rather have a bad launch turn into tire smoke instead of clutch smoke, lose the race but save the ride.

i don't really know the details on the wrx gear ratios, but perhaps they can play a roll too.

Wheres that video of the MS3 vs the 08 WRX? That shows everything that needs to be seen in the fight between the WRX and MS3. Im gonna go look for it now.

+1 on the AWD...great for launches and driving in the snow, but is not a substitute for pure HP
This may be true but dont forget cars with pure HP and AWD(sti, evo, R32) All of which with maybe the exception of the R would spank our beloved MS3's.

I have been up against several R32's and not one of them could keep up past 30 mph. I know, it wasn't snowing or raining, but in those conditions a bone stock Bug will kick my ass. The experience of the MS3 is beyond the dragstrip, and will keep you entertained even while you are not in the car. Hell, the R32 isn't fun on the dragstrip either. These cars about very high speed corner carving and longterm ownership. An evo won't be fun driving it more than 1/2 hour per day because the interior is so inferior, and a R32 is such a clanky horrible small econbox to live with from day to day. Spank is what the owners of EVOs an STIs and R32s do when they are not in their cars. Thats all they are capable of. Sorry to rant, but is true (imo).(drive2)

R32 has a much better sounding exhaust though. Dont get me wrong im not trying to start crap about the MS3 seeing that i own one and love the ever living crap out of it. But if i couldve afforded it i wouldve bought an 07 Sti anyday.

r32 = 6 cyclinder should be deeper

I've driven an R32 and raced one, wasn't really impressed. For such a rare car, 240bhp is basically a cracked out VR6 on all 4 wheels, plus the price on it is ridiculous for the performance you get out of it. They're very clean, but not practical.

Yea I am going to test drive a MS3 when I get the chance. Does anyone know what colors they are going to offer for 08 or will they be the same? Also after 08 is mazda giong to kill the MS3? I have heard that for 08 mazda is going to making a lot of MS3?

Hope you have fun when you get the chance to test drive. As for the colors available for the 08 mazdaspeed3, its the same ones and the 07.
