Who can work on an MSP (MS dealers only?)

Can a regular, non-MS dealer service a MSP? I heard from a non-MS dealer that they can't work on them. Is this true?

Thanks for the help...

i was told that by a non ms dealer too, i figured the guy knew what he was talking about and left. then i read on here that mazda sent all dealers notice that they can work on and order parts for the MSP. cant remember if the post i read had a link to the mazda message or not, try a search and print it out if its on here. i went to a non ms dealr for the clunk and for the flash. they did both. been driving on the "d" bushings for a while with no problem either.

a regualr dealer can service a mazdaspeed car they just have to call the tech line and talk to them about the problem. My car goes to the regualr dealer. Also, if you call Mazda NA they will tell you that any dealer can service a mazdaspeed.

Rocket, you're in or around Orlando right? I'm sure you've seen my comments about the salespeople at Cory Fairbanks, but ironically enough, their service department is the exact opposite. I've taken my car there for everything because they aren't a bunch of idiots like Classic & the service reps are always really cool & friendly. If you ever need anything there, ask for Jim or if it's tech-related, talk to Andy (he's their local Mazdaspeed guru).

Yea, I'm in the area, but right now I'm in Gainesville. I had heard (from a Mazda dealer in Melbourne) that reg. dealers can't. Sounds stupid to me, that is why I wanted to check with you guys.

Longwood would be too far to drive for regular work (or to get towed). If my local people could work on it, then that would be perfect.

One would think that since it is a Mazda that any Mazda could fix any problems. I could see if there was a problem with the turbo system that they wouldn't fix it. But I would go to a MS dealer if there was a problem with that part of the car anyway....

Thanks for the replies!!

Yeah, it all depends on what the problem is. If it deals with anything that is specific to the MSP, I would only take it to a Mazdaspeed dealer.

Yup, like others have said, non-Mazdaspeed dealers can work on it but it does depend on the fix that needs to be performed. I'm getting the new 'E' bushings put on next week by a non-MS dealer and he said he could do any service work I have except for possibly turbo-related stuff. He even KNEW about the ECU flash -- at which point I expressed concern that the my previous dealer didn't do it correctly and I was hoping he could hook it up to see -- he was a little reluctant to do that because he wasn't sure what the process would be to "check the version" -- he was afraid that once you start the flash you either can't stop it or that it would still take 30+ minutes just to "check the version". So that was weird, but either way this is great news for me because my drive to the dealer now changes from 2+ hours to 20 minutes!:)

A non-mazdaspeed dealer can work on a maxdaspeed, however do you really want someone not trained on the specifics of the car to work on it????

-Just a tid-bit of info...installed a sub-amp combo in a msp today and the amp was a new style amp....It might have been me but the sound out of the sub was alot crisper than mine.

ZOOMZOOM-Yea, I understand what you are saying but if it is something like fixing a coolant leak or replacing the bushings, I would feel fine with a non-MSP dealer doing it....

Ditto. It's still just a Protege with a turbo so I don't see the problem for most repairs.
