which short shifter

hey i am looking for a short shifter and can't decide. i wanna keep the stock sparco shift knob and want whichever one reduces the throw by the most. i already ordered the kartboy bushing. you guys have any suggestions?

I'm pretty sure TWM shortens the throw the most. I'm going to get the B&M myself, because it raises the shift up a little bit over stock height. The kartboy lowers it significantly I hear, and I think it's already too low. I'm not sure what affect the TWM has on height, but I'm pretty positive it's the shortest.

one guys posts about something he thinks and you buy right into it? man now i know why companies spend so much on advertising (rofl)

Get kartboy its shortens the shifter and i think they work on less cars then the others so it makes sense to say that they spend more time developing there products

B&M is the best i've tried, and i tried kartboy, B&M, and TWM.

i have B&M with kartboy bushings and i love it.

I have the kartboy and I love it...the bushings are probably the best thing for the money I have bought for my car yet..They bushing go up towards the tranny, so they have NOTHNIG to do with what shifter you use...I'll check if the kartboy works with the stock knob, but im not sure..

i've heard that the shifter bushing install isn't that difficult and neither is the actual shifter install. out of the kartboy twm and b&m which one reduces the throw the most?

i have the twm in my p5 and the b&m in my mp3...twm wins hands down over the b&m...never tried the kartboy...but i do have their shifter bushings and exhaust hangers.

B&M was the best shifter i tried for MSP, and i stock with it. add some karboy bushings and you got very good and positive shift feel. \
btw B&M has the shortest throw....there are numbers somwhere floating around this forum to prove this....just too lazy lo took.

I've gotten so much use out of this pic ...

Here's a comparison of the 3 shifters being discussed. Keep in mind that the TWM is their older generation, but the new one is fairly similar for length. The length of the shifter below the ball is what determines the length of the shift, and the length above determines the height of it. From what I read, nobody's been dissatisfied with any of them, so it's a safe bet whichever route you go. They all have their strong points: Kartboy with the package deal for shifter, bushings, and knob; B&M replacing the plastic boot that the ball of the shifter sits in; TWM having ball bearings at the bottom of the shifter. They're all good, it's just a matter of preference.

As for the install, I can't stress enough that you need a set of hog ring pliers! That's what you use to get the snap ring off, and even with the right tools, it can be a pain. If you get the Kartboy bushings, just read their directions and you'll be fine. Just remember that the stock is one piece, not 2 like the urethane ones from Kartboy, and use the bolt that it comes off of to push it from the metal ring that it's in.

Search around before you do the install - there's tons of info on here about it.

edit: Oh yeah, That's a stock P5 shifter that it's being compared to. Here's a pic of the stock MSP shifter compared to the TWM:

What do you like better about the TWM? Does the TWM lower the actual shifter at all?

another thing about B&M is that it uses its own metal housing, the rest of the shifters reuse stock plastic p.o.s.
