Where can I purchase an oil filter

Does anyone change their own oil and filter? I cannot buy a filter for my mazda 3 anywhere. This really ticks me off. (dark)

Assuming you're referring to the cartridge filter, buy it from the parts department at a dealership (it also comes with 2 o-rings). The autostores don't have them.

autozone has them. least when i called they told me they had them.

They may tell you on the phone they have one, but when you get there they will check the computer and tell you it is not yet available.

Until the aftermarket area has finally caught up, Ill buy mine directly from the dealer. I'd rather buy the correct part and pay a little more, than have something go wrong with my 2.3.

I have to agree with you on that one. Rather buy the filter from the dealer and have them install it and have records b/c if the wrong filter is put in and the engine siezes I want it covered under warranty.

I have a Mazda mechanic I go to. He specializes in Mazdas, but isnt a dealer. He too would order the part directly from the dealer if I didnt bring it in myself.

I switched my housing out to the spin on type. No more worries for me! The housing was like $45 and a new gasket was $3. Install was pretty straight forward.

evidently, this will be a new type of filter, other than a standard type oil filter found on all other vehicles
