Wheel weight

Anyone know how much the stock rims weigh? Without the tire?
Or if all you know is the whole wheel wight, a good guess at how much of that weight is the rim. I'm not sure how much an inflated tire adds to it

Thought I'd revive this thread in case anyone was wondering. On the Dunlop site for P195/50R16 the tire weight is 20.1 lbs. Since 'herarety' posted that wheel+tire weigh 37.5 lbs that would lead me to 17.5 lbs per wheel. I know, I know....that was some tough math. Man now I'm tired....I think I'll go nap.

Is this considered average for wheel weight? What's considered really light? I'm starting my search for wheels. I'm noticing that a lot of the wheel/tire sites don't have weight posted with them. Just have to save some dough so I can get em'.

For 16" wheels, 17.5 lbs isn't that bad, at least for stock wheels. Could be a bit lighter tho...

i think mazda knows what it is doing when it comes to designing light oem wheels. most miatas with upgraded wheels handle WORSE than stock because the stockers are so light. i think 17.5lbs is damn great for a stock alloy wheel. if you were to replce it with an aftermarket wheel, you would have to look hard and spend some $$ to get a better one.

i think the 16x7" rota slipstream or the 17x7.5" rota subzero are damn good alternatives...

16x7" slipstream: 13.5lbs

17x7.5" subzero: 16.5lbs

both are very strong. gary sheehan, who races a USTCC WRX, was using advan RG's and bent TWO of them in less than a month. he's since switched to the rota subzeros and has been using them for over a year without issues.

I have several sets of FD rims and I tried fitting them but I'd have to notch the shock brackets a bit to make them work. Just an FYI. The offset is decent but the car can't be lowered.

Good for autox if you got some good sway bars.

The rota slipstream is just the size I want (16x7) that way you don't really sacrifice ride comfort but gain some handleing. The only thing i don't like is that they look kinda plain. Still nice though...

I weighed them once when I shipped them out , came in at 17 1/4 lbs.

Where are the pics on your site? You gotta have some pics. Oh by the way highway mileage was rated at 31 not 30(fyi..no biggie)at least for the manual tranny.

Stock (non-chrome)P5 wheel: 16 lbs
Stock tire: 20 lbs

I like your wheels. where did you get them, how much($), whats the weight?

Thanks. :)
I bought them used from a forum member, but they originally came from Rishie at Automotive R&D in Milpitas, ca. Rishe's a forum member, too(ARD MP5) he's truley the wheel guru for Proteges, and he can get great deals on pretty much ANY wheel for our car. If you need wheels for your Protege, IMHO, your best bet is to contact either him or MP3skaterNC.
They were expensive...even used.
The wheels are Volk LE37Ts and weigh 17lbs for an 18X7.5"
