Can I use a 2021-2023 CX-9 Steering Wheel with paddles on a 2019 CX-9 (Touring) without paddles?

Why?

My 2019 CX-9 Steering wheel is peeling. It does have S mode (manual shifting on the column). Maybe they all do.

On eBay I find 2021 - 2023 steering wheels with paddles. Would I be able to use these on the 2019 and have the paddles work?

I probably won't use the paddles much, but I don't want to limit my options only to the ones without paddles because it's hard to find a steering wheel on eBay that's in great shape.

I see other threads on here about getting all the parts to do this conversion, but with a used wheel this is already all done.

curious also. things to check are if the clock spring is the same part number. if it's different then wires don't exist.
www.car-part.com is a junkyard hotline. you could try find a junk yard with seats or something large with a 2021+ and pull it from there

And the clock spring I have fits all variants of CX-9 and several other models:

But only through 2021, the part changed in 2022.

But the wheel itself is supposed to fit 2021-2023, so maybe the connectors are the same for the clock spring.

The wheel fit fine physically and connectors also. Using the paddles does nothing. Several buttons on the left side don't do anything or do something different (i.e volume+up button tried to change favorites and mute button did nothing). So the wiring has been significantly changed.

Just in case anyone is reading this later, the wheel I got from eBay was the heated variant (which I never expected to work) so maybe this is another factor. The hole on the bottom is filled in on this heated model which is meh.

The material of this higher end 2022 steering wheel doesn't look as good IMO. There isn't as much visible grain to the "leather". But maybe this is because it's the heated model and for this reason or another they made it more durable. It does seem softer also.

I will probably remove the covers and buttons from both steering wheels and swap them.

I swapped all the parts and now everything works. Wheel looks great.

From my research for a 2019 I conclude that you can probably get a salvaged wheel from almost any CX-9 or Mazda 6 from 2018 to 2022...as long as you are willing to swap the covers and buttons (which isn't hard).
