Wheel size

I was just wonderin how wheel size relates to HP on a car i know that big bling bling 19s will slow you down but how do they relate to tires that are 17" that are of comparable weight how much does the 2" in diameter effect the force needed to spin them

a 19 inch wheel will still slow you down, even if it is the same weight as the comparable 17'' wheel. it's not only the weight of the larger wheel's that slows you down, its also the rotational intertia.

basically its this. even though they might weigh the same, the weight is farther away from the axle in a 19'' wheel. which means that it takes more effort for the car to turn the wheel. for an idea of how this works, go up to a large door and push it closed from the middle of the door. then open it back up and try again from the very edge of the door. and once again from right next to the pivot point of the door.

if i screwed up in my explanation, someone please correct me

Yep somes it up...

How much would it slow you down on the 3 with a 18 or 19 inch tire and would it provide better handleing . I read taht somewhere that bigger wheel providees better handleing.

From what I read, and heard with rims and tires sizes not to lose speed you need to change gears to compensate. Now this was for a rear wheel drive car.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Therefore, it would be the same with MP-3 5- Speed.

Some say 5 mph lose on speed, but that is speed on the dash.

There are many many articles about this.
