Wheel speed sensor issues

Hello,

I searched and didn’t find my issue online, although it seems like something that would be fairly common. I feel like if I list the symptoms, someone familiar with these cars will likely be able to tell me what’s going on fairly easily, or so I hope.

I have a 2010 Mazdaspeed, stick shift, 170k. I must have gotten lucky because it almost never gives me problems.

I had the 3 lights come on (abs, traction, hand brake I believe) and after researching, the cheapest thing to try first was changing out the wheel speed sensors. I did that yesterday, and today on the way to work, it started lagging and surging, like felt like low power, then the car would speed up, over and over. Then after about 20 minutes the power steering light came on. Then after that, the speedometer began to just register zero.

Obviously this is all the result of swapping out those sensors. What does this indicate? Am I supposed to do more? Do I need to have Mazda or some shop use a diagnostic tool to reprogram something or clear something? Or is it something else?

I appreciate the help.

Here are the codes it’s throwing

Looks like one of those speed sensors popped up. I would go back and look at that one. As for the other original lights, did you check the brake fluid level? What if any codes did you get prior to changing sensors?

Brake fluild level is good. I checked the codes at Autozone with the 3 lights on and there were none (or so said the employee). It wasn’t until I called a mobile mechanic today who had a way better diagnostic tool that was able to read everything and tell me. That’s where I got the C codes from. He said he suspects the abs module and pump. Does this sound like he may be right before I go spending money?

I think you should go back and check that wheel speed sensor. One being off can cause all of the symptoms you describe. A real mechanic would be able to properly diagnose, rather than "suspect" and have you throw serious cash away

I bought a new one for the front right (again) so I’m gonna try my luck there again and see if the 4 pack I bought before just had a bad one in there.

But would a faulty wheel speed sensor cause those specific codes?
