Wheel Screeching

i have a similar problem aswell. only screeches while turning the wheel to the right ( front driver side wheel). can be an inch or a full turn and screech screech screech as the car wheel spins/turns . notice it at slow speeds about 30KM or slower. also sound goes away when applying brakes. any ideas? you guys think its the caliper too? its funny since it only happens while turning right.(notcool)

it's possible that it's a feeler if your caliper or something's frozen.. but it sounds more of a strut mount issue or something of that.. it's hard to diagnose suspension/brakes without seeing them.

well i took the wheel off, popped off the brake pads and pushed the caliper piston back a bit. Put it all back together and no more squeak (nana)....for now anyways. we'll see if it keeps up. the pad wasn't dragging on the rotor so its interesting why pushing it back would have made a difference. i may have had some brake dust or a pebble in there somewhere making the noise. do you think the weather would have had an influence? warm weather just rolled in after a pretty frigid winter. ah well who knows well see what happens

all depends.... could have been something like that.i would check to make sure you're contacting on all points of the pad.. also, if you don't grease up the slides on the caliper and where the pads meet metal(on the caliper, to hold it on) they could squeek and stuff also.

just decided to replace the caliper and have no worries. during the replacement the dust boot which i just replaced a few months ago was starting to rip again in the same spot. could have been part of the problem. so far so good after putting 400Km on it(drinks).

good. the problem probably was that they didn't grease s***. so, i hope you greased everything.

hmm, I just had this problem yesterday. Same thing, squeak would go away when the brakes were applied. The thing is I just replaced all 4 rotors and pads a month or two ago, but I didn't grease anything so that could be the problem. But I don't see how not greasing the caliper would cause a squeak that was clearly related to the tire rotating. But I pulled over and let it sit for a minute or two and then the squeak never returned.

weird. but the caliper slide if not greased will get hung up sometimes causing a squeek, and obviously causing the caliper to not do its job.

I replaced the pads and rotors all around (it was due) and while i had everything apart, i noticed that the caliper that was squeaking was more rusty than the others so i took a wire brush to it and it has been solid for 300 miles so I'll chalk it up to a mystery. Perhaps i just needed to adjust the parking brake allen screw to bring the piston back a bit?

There is still a weird creak that i can't identify. It is noticeable at super low speeds, it sounds like the car is doing a quick burp every once and awhile. I can recreate it by just gently pushing down on the car in the rear passenger doorway over the tire.

could be endlinks, sway bar bushings, or something like a strut mount

first off thanks for your responses(rei) second, what exactly do i grease? i didnt grease anything, after the install i threw on the summer rims again and got excited and took her for a spin lol

grease all contaact points of the brake pad to the caliper, and grease the caliper slides.

Where are each of these components? On the P5 the rear sway bar is actually 2 bars, correct? What would be the fix if it was the strut mount? I've never troubleshot suspension before so I could use a little hand holding...

no. one sway bar in the rear. one sway bar in the front. the endlinks connect from each side of the sway bar, to the strut.

strut mount, that's on the top of the strut, which compresses the spring, and is what you mount to the body.

The creaking started AFAIK when I raised the rear to look at the tire squeal the first time. After dropping it back down that day it started to creak. Could something be slightly out of place after raising it? I'll get it up this weekend and shake it back into place, or something.

wtf is AFAIK.. and yes. sometimes things rock out of place after being raised.
