Clicking sound when turning the steering wheel while signaling

On my 2017 CX-9, I’ve noticed this:

The sound only occurs when I turn on the signal light (left or right) and then turn the steering wheel. If I don’t use the signal and just turn the steering wheel, the sound does not occur.

It’s not the usual turn signal sound — when I turn the steering wheel, there’s an extra clicking noise coming from it.

Has anyone else experienced this with your Mazda?

Thanks.

Is it the mechanism that engages at a certain point of wheel travel, that clicks the turn signal back off?

I am not so sure...

When I turn the steering wheel with the signaling light on, I hear one click during the first rotation and another click during the second rotation. It sounds like a plastic knocking noise.

When the wheel back, it clicks again. However, this is not the normal turn signal sound---If I drive straight and turn signal light, it only has the normal light sound.

If I don’t use the turn signal, the steering wheel makes no such noise when I do a turn, so I feel it must be related to some component of the turn signal system?
