What to do?

I just bought my 2003 mazdaspeed and i dont know what to do to this car for performance so could someone help me out on what all u can buy for power while keep stock internals and turbo! if anyone knows websites i can get this stuff i would greatly appreciate it any help is better then none!!!

check out the forum sponsors for places to find things. i recommend new internals for any amount of modding, but i think that opening up the exhaust to let the turbo spin a little easier would be a good start.

Wow I'm surprised all the vendors aren't all over this yet. Yes turbo cars take well to a free flowing exhaust, the stock intercooler(interwarmer as most of us call it) SUCKS a big one, and along with an exhaust an intake will allow the turbo to breath better, oh and very important should be first is a boost gauge. These cars seem to have very random boost fluctuations when the WGA goes bad, it can and has lead to blown motors. Welcome.

thank you! would hard pipes bov and wastegate be in thosemods and still be reliable???

yes hardpipes and bov will be reliable....manual boost controler but i sugest keeping under 10 psi on stock internals

ugh, that fat ass in your avatar makes me wan to puke all over myself

After the exhaust you could do a smic if you plan to stay with stock internals (under 10psi).

I didn't want to say which intercooler to get, I hate to argue about it. I boost high so I got a good FMIC.

Honestly, I think you should include that 10 Has caused many members to blow their motors, and even people who swore that it could hold more, have also blown up..

You are propably not going to pay for his motor if it blows up so at least provide fair warning.

It's true but those that mod their car should know that it can lead to a blown motor. These cars are very fragile and a lot of us know it but then again this person is newer than most of us here. Let it be heard high boost and these cars don't go well together, it has been seen many many times. BOOM, so sad. You've been warned

i would just rebuild the motor right now, before you get in too deep. just do what i am doing with my new car and collect parts for a while until you have a full build to do. it's a lot more fun that way. then you feel a huge difference in your car, the build complete and more reliable, and you don't have to keep pulling the same parts over and over.

actually i think it would be more fun to keep adding mods one by one. the car becomes more enjoyable to drive with each mod. plus, you can work out all of the problems associated with each mod if you do them one at a time. also, you learn how to handle the additional power if you slowly mod the car instead of having the car stock one day, then have a monster the next.

i guess ur right.... 8psi is more reliable....im just going by what others say. i myself want to mod but dont want the BOOM!

The "Others" have gradually stoped saying that the motor can handle 10, because by now, most of them have blown the motor too.. :)

so 8s safe? what mods would keep me at 8 psi and still add power!!!

i would love to do a rebuild but i wont have enough money to start buyin all that!!!but who knows that might come in my future.... i got my boost gauge hooked up last night,so what should be my next mod???

another question is the mazdaspeed stock muffler made by race beat or something like that???

thanks a ton for all the help

Good question, if you get a turbo back and an IC your boost will go up. My car is pretty much stock so I can't comment on how much it'll go up. Yep, the stock muffler is made by Racing Beat.

I didn't even think about it at the time but yeah, I don't want to start a big debate or anything. I'll be going with a FMIC too when the time comes.

I'm new here too Twisted and I'd say 8 psi is safest after all the threads I've read about ZOOM ZOOM BOOM. I bought my MSP about a week ago and I'm hunting down the DPO boost mod so I can turn it down. I agree with everyone, get colder air in with the IC and CAI, and let her breath out better with a larger exhaust. However, I think a programmable AFC would be a great first mod! The stock computer does not have a great map right off the bat and will hold you back when you want to go big on the intake and exhaust mods! It's my next upgrade!
