what the problem is?

In lower gears (mainly 2nd and 3rd) between 3-4k rpms the engine will buck like crazy if I just hold the gas about half way down. It's always between 0 and 2 psi when it does this too. If I give it more gas it will quit immediately. Is it possible that its hitting fuel cut or something? It's been cooler lately, but I'm only running stock boost. What the #$%^ is going on?

i think mine does the same, if i hold the gas just a little bit or 1/2 way the intake startes sucking in air like crazy and it blows of kinda hard and it bucks around....odd.

how do you get it? I asked my dealer if the car was flashed before I bought it and the guy gave me a blank stare at first, then told me about their "carsmart" thing, and anything that should have been done to the car has been done. The clunk is fixed, I will give them that, but it is definitely showing symptoms of needing to be flashed...

anyone have a link to that thread where all the competant dealers were located. There is a thread somewhere around here that has all the mazda dealers that are aware of the flash. your from baltimore, hmmm, i know the dealer in New Castle deleware on rt13, (nucar mazda) that's where i purchased my MSP, and they are aware of the reflash, talk to john stidham, he's a pretty cool guy.

i'm flashed and my car does the same thing. engine just bucks. makes me nervous sometimes like i'm doing something wrong. but i don't know since other are experiencing same thing.

mine has been doing that too. its has been especially bad after i got a fmic. it has gotton to the point where my hks will blow off by itself when it starts to buckle. i'm unflashed by the way.

Is it possible the engine's bucking because you're not holding the gas pedal completely still? Not trying to flame anyone here, but the pedal's pretty sensitive and the bucking could be from engine braking... I'll have to take my car out and see if mine does the same thing.

yup my greddy is blowing off to and its gotten much worse since i put in the FMIC. but it doesnt happen to me as bad at stock boost, i really dont mind it..its just the car telling you she's ready :D

2 words: motor mounts

After I installed mine, the car stopped doing that. It's lash from the engine and tranny.

Edit: Actually, I think I misunderstood your post. It sounds like classic MSP hesitation. The flash doesn't always help.

Damn straight, I've hit fuel cut so many times. I get the same problem though, like one of the rods are frozen in place for a second or something, so wierd.

if your car is doing that sounds like your pipes are leaking or boost leak? My car did this with my spool pipes a while back, and it did it tonight, one of my couplings on my IC came off and it did this bad. I re fit it and its fine.

are most dealers pretty much aware of "the flash" now? I noticed the list of all flash competent dealers, but taht was like a year ago...I dont wanna have to drive an hour away and then wait just to get it done...

Thank God that I'm not the only one with this problem. I tried for a long time to figure out what it was and no one really knew. I even posted vids on here of the car bucking and no one was sure what the problem is. It only started after I put my CAI on. And, yes, my MSP is flashed. I have a 3" custom S-pipe-back exhaust and a custom 2.5" recirculated CAI. I have since spoken with the MSP tech at my Mazda dealer and he said that he had a similar problem with another MSP in town after he had put in a new engine. He couldn't find out what the problem was until he checked out the customers hardpipes and CAI piping. Once he retightened everything he was able to get rid of the bucking.

Right now I have worm-gears on all of my piping. I still have the stock PVC intercooler piping. However, I have purchased two heavy-duty clamps for the pressure side connections near the turbo, and I plan to retighten all the rest of the wormgear clamps this weekend. I hope that this gets rid of the problem. My bucking was so bad if I didn't get off the gas that I recently snapped my left front axle. For the record, I NEVER race the car, NEVER hit it from a standstill, and I NEVER drop the clutch. I DO hit it from a 30-40 kmh roll and this had never been a problem before the CAI and had never produced bucking before. I DO keep my foot steady on the throttle unless the bucking starts and then I get off before the car shakes apart.

Interestingly, it ony happens (as Wiggles mentions) at part throttle, usually in 2nd or 3rd, and at low boost. If I hammer it, I don't get the bucking. I do get some of the typical MSP hesitation despite the flash and, after the CAI, I swear that I am experiencing some bogging/loss of power when the turbo is at full boost. This never happened before the CAI which leads me to believe that something is loose somewhere and precious boost is being spitted out into the engine bay. If it still persists after I have tightened everything then I have to consider the possibility that the intercooler piping has a crack in it somewhere. Should this happen then I will have to go with hardpipes as the intercooler pipes are on backorder at Mazda and the wait time is 3 months!

I will post the results of my service job next week. I also hope my axle gets here soon as the car makes a terrible noise when I am accelerating as it stands right now. The tech assured me that it would be OK to drive for the 2 weeks it would take for the axle to arrive.
