i want to paint some bulbs a red colour but not block out too much light
what paint should i use and where could i get some?

I used Duplicolor 1500degree paint to paint my front turn signal bulbs VERY lightly so they still shine and blink orange but you dont see the orange in the lenses when the lights are off.

It has worked very well and its not peeling off...You can get some at Autozone, pep Boys, etc

Don't think red is entirely legal. Might want to think it over.

I painted front turn signal bulbs to blue. Duno if it is legal or not but I keep the orginal orange bulbs in the car, in case if cops pull me over for it.

R1C3B0YYYYYYYYYYY :D

where can i find vehicle code laws?

instead of paint i got some rear licnese plate bulbs in red and repalced them.... is this legal? i've seen someone overseas doing them in blue.

as i was doing this i realised that my left bulb was burnt out so i exchanged the original white bulb from the right into the left socket and it blew that one out too! guess i have to goto the dealer to complain!

Pretzellogic i thought blue was illegal because its used on a cop car.... but red lights are all over the back of our cars anyways.....

Blue = very illegal

Red, I think, is illegal on the front of a car.
Could be wrong. Be sure to check the laws in your area.

HA, blue is definetly illegal, i have them in the back and the front. The front ones are allways on at nite. I just dont signal whenever a cop is around (advice i got from another cop) and when i get pulled over, no hazard lites.
but i just went to discount auto parts and bought blue bulbs, for like 3 dollars a pair. Wal-mart has them too.

Is it illegal (in your areas) to simply have blue bulbs, or is it the lack of an orange light for the blinker that is illegal? I think I found a good solution. I bought Sylvania Silverstar corner bulbs. They're blue when unlit, and street-legal orange when lit. Check out my cardomain page for pics. I love 'em, though they were a bit pricey ($18 for the pair).

I replaced both my front and rear signals w/red bulbs I bought from my local auto parts store. BUT the ones in the back had a kind of pinkish red glow to them when lit - NOT COOL. I came across some gel caps at the auto store and used them on the front and rear and they give off a great red color - solid and a very rich RED. I recently replaced the front ones w/OEM white bulbs and red caps and they're brilliant. The rears haven't yet needed replacing and the color hasn't been distorted. It will eventually fade on the fronts faster (about 6 mos to a year, depending on how much you have them on, I automatically turn my headlights on day or night so they've gone faster on mine) only because they are constantly on as opposed to the rear which only blink. As far as MD laws go, red is legal on the rear but not the front. I try not to use them around cops though. :D

BTW, I've seen the gel caps in blue and green as well. The color of the cap is kind of deceiving though, it doesn't look as bright in the package as they actually are. The red ones, especially, look kind of orange in the pkg but when they're on and lit up they look red like my pic above. They're not the best fitment (the ones I used are about the size of the tip of my thumb) kinda have to jimmy them in on the front and they're kinda loose on the back but I haven't had problems w/them once installed and they look great.

thanks :)

one of my bulbs blew out and i was testing what it would look like with one white and one red,
anyways i was trying to replace them but then the left one keeps blowing out.... time to goto the dealer

clownphish- I didn't relize they sold the colored "caps" to put over existing bulbs. I've mostly seen bulbs for sale with the plastic/vinyl/whateverthehellitis already on the bulb. I would have to say that would be the way to go. Less chance of screwing up a bulb and not having to worry about paint being too thick or too thin.

I would just buy some colored bulbs or the covers. I never would, but I would use a high temp paint if I were to even attempt to paint the lights. Just my two cents.

Yeah I really like the caps. I'm a fanatic about color and it had to be just the "right" red so I'm really happy with them. I've bought them both at Auto Zone and Pep Boys and their pretty cheap. They come in different sizes as well, just check your local auto parts store, I'm sure they'll have them. :D
