Alrite guys its time for an oil change again and i was wondering what oil filter would be good for the msp that doesnt cost a fortune and what oil do you recommend?

DONT go OEM. Get a filter with some more filtering capactiy. You drive a turbo car, use a filter designed for a turbo car, not a NA P5.

02-03 WRX filters are about twice as big, have twice the filtering capacity, fit on PERFECT, and take oil consumption up to an even 4 qts. What more could you want?

I've been running WRX Mobil 1 Syn Filters for the last two oil changes... i'll never go back to the little tiny OEM one. Its crap.

Might have to try this one.

I went with royal purple 10w-30 and a K&N. Havent tried a WRX filter yet. Seems like it would make sense though.

So you just go into a Subaru dealer and ask for a WRX filter? Regular, STI, does it make a difference or is the filter the same? Also how much?

Or a parts store, just get the regular WRX -02-03 filter, i havent tried the STI filter yet. I'm sure its the same, but like i said, ihavent personally tried it. Maybe next time i will.

Make sure you get the WRX filter, and not the regular 2.5i imprezza one.

As for cost,i got the bling'ed out Mobil 1 Synthetic Filter for 9 bucks, but the WIX will run you about 3-4 bucks.

You can't beat the OEM filter but if you'd rather have somewhat greater filtering capacity (although I don't think it's needed) buy the Mazda 626 V6 oil filter. Same diameter, thread and pressure relief valve setting as OEM but taller, with ~ 30% greater filtering capacity.

My engine oil is Red Line 10W-30.

Fram #6607 I believe is the model number for $3... An oil filter is an oil filter... It's not like other brands are "SOOO MUCH" better then others... And even oil... It's all the same schnit...

Nothing could be more wrong. FRAM is the worst filter ever made. Go do a search on dsmtuners for how many guys have had these and they have come apart at high boost and desytroyed turbos and entire bottom ends. Not all filters are the same. WIX filters feature a far superior build quality. Mobil 1 is actually manufactured by champion labs, which are pretty much the best oil filter guys in the business.

what year 626? i'm assuming the 2002+ models

A friend of mine did some flow tests for an independant research group. He found K&N to be the best, Motorcraft and Purolator PureOne to be good for the money, and Fram to be the worst.

The 2000-2002 V6 oil filters will fit and probably some of the earlier ones as well. The mazda part no. for the V6 oil filter is: JEYO-14-302-9A.

thanksssss

Syntec 5w-30 for me, and from someone who used to change oil for a living (thank god i am back in school!), Fram SUCKS!!! I personally like PureONE but i will definately try the WRX thing, whoever told you that FRAM is the best is a moron, and obviously just watched a commercial or two and thought the slogan was catchy. I also don't really care for K&N not because they aren't good, but because they aren't worth the money. the K&N and the PureONE are about the same pretty much, neither one is better than the other one.
