the motor on my mp3 has some major problems going, so i was looking into getting a used motor. Does anybody know if you can get any 2.0L I4 from like an 02 or 03 protege? or does it have to be one from an MP3...?
Please Help!

The FS-DE is what comes stock in the MP3 as well as the MSP and P5. The FS-ZE was used in the JDM protege and a certain model of escort (ZX-2?). They both are a direct fit but the ZE is usually used as an N/A application because of its higher compression. Search around to see what suits your needs...also, the KL will fit with modification, but its been done a few times over.

well now i'm at a tizzy because i called the mazda dealer and they said that i was stupid to get a new engine in it because it's gonna like outvalue the price of my car so i guess im just getting it fixed

that doesn't really make sense. You should be able to get a used engine for less than 2k. If you do go to a regular protege or p5 motor know that you no longer have to use premium and will notice a drop in power because of the different ecu's.

ACTUALLY, he'd get the exact same power. The MP3 motor is identical to the regular production protege's with the exception of the ECU

But if the problem is with the motor, he could retain his factory ECU, it has nothing to do with swapping out the engine.

Point is, go to a scrap yard, grab a 2.0L for under 1000$ (the stealership will charge you thousands of dollars for a NEW engine which you DON'T need), and swap out the block and head, and leave everything else in the car.

okay i knew about the ecu and intake mani...

but the block or head somebody said? do i need to do that? and i think my old engine's head gasket blew.

ya you could, but i wouldnt unless it had like crazy miles on it or something. i would go ahead and change the water pump and timing belt.

ya that's pretty high...I wouldn't buy anything with more then 100,000, and even that's pushing it

1. your dumb go to the junk yard and start looking and if you not to dumb youll figure it out fords and mazdas
