What Job to Have?

Louie, hire me I'll work for $25.00 an hour with no problems. E-mail me if you can: jjrsae@yahoo.com . Skeptical as to not making good money, well my cousin works for Semens as a consultant and makes like $140K a year. So after talking to him he says that it's possible but it will take time, about 8 years for him, and you do have to get in the door. So thanks to all for your comments

Working for a consulting company is a great way to make a lot of dough, if you stick with it. They will work you 60-80 hour weeks no problem. BUT, if you hang around long enough you move up VERY quickly.

My first job out of school (with a CS degree) I made $26.5k. 12 years later I make around $120k. So there are still high paying jobs, but not a lot at the entry level.

EXPERIENCE is the key word!

Made 35K out of college with a 2 yr Computer Science Degree. Now...3 yrs later I am about where you would like to start. I don't think it is possibe now a days to start at 75K.

If you do though...let me know, and I'll go to that company and ask for 150K.

ya i have 2 year part time work experience in the cs field before leaving college. I also had 1 study aboard experience.. all of which got me 50k in atlanta... which i thought was OK.... OH ya NJ_EMT if u want i might be able to hook u up with a job at Equifax here in atlanta if u wanna move... I think they pay like 45-47k

what is cse??? computer science engineer??

computer systems engineering...it differs from computer science in that it's an actual engineering degree...so more involved classes in engineering. computer science at my school focuses a lot on programming and such...cse is more software and hardware, systems design (coming up with new computer designs)

that is even worse from what i hear... All my computer engineering friends can't find jobs without a 3.5 gpa.

you should be an accountant or some s***, my dad makes like $200k a year that way

I currently work as a consultant/specialist for a homebuilder. I plan on doing this until I get my associates degree, and then I plan on going to air traffic control school. My current job is not really what I want to do in life, but its not bad for side work. I do plan on renting and would love to work my way up to multifamily housing and eventually purchase some condo's. I have found that one job is great, but there are much more ways to gain greater income than working the basic 9-5 just as mr deputy has explained. Its no mistake that around 3/4 of all millionaires own real-estate.

Well you won't be making $75K, you can always move to India where there are tons of tech jobs, and compared to the majority of society you'd be loaded. It's all relative, isn't it?

So, I'm in college right now pursuing a degree in Computer Science but I'm curious as to what jobs people have out there that are making some good money. I'm talking about at least $75G a year and more. I would love to find someone on here that could give me some direction as to what to spend my free time studying so when I graduate I'm up to speed. I also want to find a job that pays good money and has advancement potential. Send your ideas and let me know..... I want to make good money when I graduate and I'm willing to relocate anywhere in the world to do it.

Ohh... right now I work as a GIS Tech at the Water District in Las Vegas.

No way $75K as a fresh out in this economy. Still to many IT people unemployed for many months. Just plain finding a job right now will be hard enough. I'm employed at a small, deeply disturbed software company that's been on the edge of closing for almost 3 years (rich owner keeps it afloat). I've only had 2 interviews in a year and a half.

If you want greatly increase your chances and make a good start you will need to be patient and willing to move anywhere in the country at your own expense. And even then be careful, I've heard of graduates having offers in hand and then have them dropped later.

Some tips for college graduates fresh out. First, if you have any loans, dont immediately think pay them off ASAP. Debt is rewarding in many ways. Outstanding loans that have interest rates over 5%, pay off immediately, otherwise, count on the long haul in paying them off. Debt helps increase your credit score immensely as long as you are making timely payments. Not to mention, they are counted as tax write-offs. Second, live with somone close, like your parents, for six months, and build up your bank accounts. Get a good 15,000 saved and then go out and buy a multifamily house, in which, the rents cover the mortgage. In the end, since the rent covers the mortgage, when you sell the house, the value of your hosue goes directly into your pocket. Nothing ever to pay, other than yearly house tax.

I would suggest for the next six months, saving cash again, and buying another multifamily house. Once again, only a houe in which the rent covers the mortgage. And so forth. Some buying tips. Dont buy a house when you recently applied for credit cards. This reduces your score, and thus, directly effects your interest rates. To also reduce your broker fee on a house purchase, studying and get your real estate lincese. This cuts the broker fee in half. Plan on collecting 3 to 4 properties not including your own hosue. Then when you retire, either this cash is free income since the mortgage will be paid off, or you see all 4 places, and net pure profit.

I could keep going, but that is my long-term goal. I am fresh out of college, but I work 12 to 13 hours a day, not including the time I spend studying for my series 7 and 63. Salary relates directly to time spent working for it. I dont have the background or epxerience to say this, but, to me, its worth putting in the time while i am young.

and yes, SciFiMan, it is possible to make 75+ out in thsi economy. You just cant make it working the 9-5 day.

Actually..., my dad does :D and he makes more than twice that. And I plan on it also because I am going to do the same thing.

But I agree with you totally on purchasing multifamily housing. But I wonder what type you are refering to? Apartment condos? Townhomes? I know there are many and each market differs, but still, alot of people start with single family and work their way up to multi+.

Also, "Not to mention, they are counted as tax write-offs" your not talking about an auto are you? The only form of debt I have is my car and would LOVE to know how to write it off. Although, the company that I work for already pays me .36 a mile when I am driving on the job.

But as far as renting goes, you couldnt have said it any better, "pure profit".

I never went to college, I make 74K a year - after I get my raise I should be making about 80k. Work hard, get along with people, help out when you can. Learn how when you can't.

I'm a network administrator - no formal schooling, all research and experience. Oh, and I've only been in the field since 12/18/01, then I got promoted to admin roughly 11 months later.

Work hard - do something you like.

I know this is kinda o/t ... but I just graduated with a BA degree (communtications) with a minor in graphic design/advertising art -- and 2 certificates -- computer graphics and web design.

What kinda jobs do you see out there in my field where you live? I have my monster acct going and have gotten a few responses -- best was a tech support job making 32k a year -- prob is that its in Manhattan and travel expenses and taxing will kill me.

I was lucky to find a job 6 months before I graduated. I found that the jobs that were "supposed" to be there for new grads weren't, but I was one of the better candidates from my field. I'm going to be starting as an entry level engineer somewhere around 50k. Computer engineers living in more expensive cities can probably expect more, but not 75k.

protege5gurly - freelance work until you can find a good solid job somewhere. From what you have, it sounds like you want to go into advertising? just look around, maybe you aren't looking in the right places and DEFINITELY open up accts with more than one job search engine.
