What have you done to your P5 today?

This a great thread but today I'm just posting about doing a timing belt service on my P5. I have about 150,000 miles on it and am looking to do a timing belt. I know I'm lucky to have gone for 150k...

Anyway, I'm getting varying prices on the job from dealers and shops regarding exactly which parts to replace. I'll definitely do the belt itself and the water pump and the drive belts are new. But what about the tensioners? The dealers say they aren't necessary unless they are making noise. I've heard there is a spring that should be replaced though.

Any info and/or advice is welcome and thanks in advance? So far, this car has been fantastically reliable with virtually no repair costs (except for brakes and tires and one O2 sensor).

2002 P5, automatic with electronic manual 4speed option, AC, PS...

I have got the same conflicting results....I guess you are better off changing them while you have it apart, especially at your mileage. And yes there is a spring. Here is a compilation of parts I put together for the job.

Timing Belt
Idler
Tensioner
Tensioner Spring
Water Pump
Water Pump Gasket
Thermostat
Thermostat Gasket
Upper Rad Hose
Lower Rad Hose
Camshaft Seal
Crankshaft Seal
AC/PS Belt
Alt Belt

$3.32 !!! WHAT THE HELL !! Pennsylvania sucks.......

QFT....I did fill up for $3.53 today though.

353.8 miles/11.585 gallons = 30.53mpg. Other than a couple of long highway trips this is the best mileage I have recorded in my ownership. Could have driven some more as the idiot light had yet to come on.

Also returned a cargo box to a friend before taking the kids to the mall for some back-to-school shopping.

Pulled apart the fuel system AGAIN! I took everything apart (including the braided steel line - that sucked) and then put it all back together using a liquid thread sealant rather than teflon tape. I was told you shouldn't use teflon tape on fuel system components. Anyway, the main objective was to seal the braided steel line connection so hopefully this will fix it. If it's still leaking I'll know where it's coming from though - it'll have to be the connection of the line and the fitting that connects to the fuel rail. I also started prepping the car for my gauge install tomorrow. Going to install new oil pressure and temperature gauges, yay!

got my tires put on and then also found out that I have two blown struts in my coilovers. *sigh* when will it ever end??

lol those were some strong ass wire nuts I used on the wiring for that Fan hahahahaha

I guess I'll just have to mount the fan bracket to the stud thats there....I needs mah fan!
Strong Wire nuts...Yet weak bolts.

Who taught you how to hang a Ceiling fan?
errr.....Or didn't.

I use duct tape to hold up my ceiling fans. It rocks a bit but it ain't goin nowheres

And side note, going ahead with header install today. If oem spring bolts is rusted too bad, i'll get em as tight as I can to seal up, then when new ones show, i'll just swap em out, as the header will already be on

Alright, i said screw it and went ahead with the header install with the old spring bolts/i'll replace them when the new ones from Dave show.

So, in 20 minutes, old header is off, new one is in and one bolt at the midpipe is attached and 2 bolts at the header to see how everything lines up.

I go to attach EGR, and, look what I see

Kinda hard to thread on the nut when there aren't any threads. hmmm.......so i'm stopped

lol

Well, i'm off to put the stock manifold back on. Ghey

Where would I order a new threaded nipple from?

Anyone happen to know what the thread and pitch is on teh EGR? Might be able to run to work and possibly rethread it if I have one

This is as far on as the nut will even go.

Thats upsetting.. hope you get it fixed. It's gonna be loud :D (drive2)

sound clip?

Mine's an injen cai>obx header>stock midpipe (cat removed)> stock resonator section> hks axleback

It screams when you get on it but isnt bad on a 65-70mph cruise.

yes that stock exhaust setup is heavy as hell, i had it come crashing down on me when i was yanking it off the car lol
almost nailed me in the face but i caught it in time, that support bracket had me stumped for a while, i didnt know it was there and i couldnt figure out why it wasnt comming out haha

edit: at least you have a header, mine still hasnt showed up, i should have ordered from ebay
protege garage is turning out to be nothing but problems for me lately

This is actually go round number 2 with a header. I had teh OBX, but, it droned too bad. So, i pulled it and sold it. Then, after selling it, i relaized howmuch power and oomph the car had with it, so, i had to get another!

And, i just went to my office, freaking hour round trip, but, grabbed a big hunking metal file and am tearing into the stripped threads so at least the EGR nut will reach the good threads.

Here's to hoping i can get it today!!!!!!

Pro is it really that big of a power difference? If so, I'm gonna have to buy me one even though I plan to go turbo in the future.
