Which knob/shifter combo? If it's going on crooked either the shifter or knob might be crossthreaded. I know with the greddy knob (the one that weighs literally 1 pound) you have to be careful about spinning it on too fast, because it's made out of copper (soft).amsgator said:Well I got my ss installed today, with the much needed help from Corwin!!! Thanks Corwin!!! You da man! Now I Just gotta get used to it bein a lil harder to shift.
If anyone has any problems w/ knobs not fitting exactly right, like screwed on all the way they angle off a little bit instead of bein situated straight forward...TEFLON TAPE WORKS WONDERS!!! I had to use some b/c the knob screwed on cockeyed a little bit...Teflon tape fixed it!!!
Well thanks again Corwin!!! tomorrow should be fun :-D
Wait this is the Mazda3 knob with the plastic inner part replaced with metal, isn't it? I bet the threads just don't quite match up, like whoever put the metal in might have approximated the M10x1.5 or whatever the stock shifter is with an SAE tap.. I'd find someone with a metric tap set (I have one.. but I'm quite far away hehe) and have them tap the shift knob and if it needs it, take a die to the shifter. I know when I crossthreaded my greddy knob on, it messed up the threading on my TWM too. I learned my lesson, be careful, especially with heavy knobs: take it nice and slow spinning it onMr. Win said:Its the TWM with a mazda knob.

amsgator said:the teflon tape just made the threads tight before they were completely "used." there is maybe 1/8 turn left of the threads, but the teflon tape makes it tight where it is.![]()
Kansei said:if that were teh case it should still bottom out on the metal of the shifter (or on the washer of your shift boot)
