What have you done to your P5 today?

Two mates make quick work. I think ;)

Started reassembling her. Should have her together a decent amount this evening :) running tomorrow? Hopefully that's not optimistic thinking!

Actually, it is. I just need coolant and some power steering fluid and I should be set :)

Pics for progress ;)

Turns out I was being optimistic even more -_- I need the throttle body gasket (if that's the right bit with the throttle that's before the intake...) and I couldn't do the bottom end cause I needed the silicone sealant. I got the head strapped down and the intake mani attached. Few other tidbits here and there. its making progress at least. And I figured out my PS motor mount is ripped... Bleh. More stuff to fix but that's the easier part. The hard part was the teardown IMO. Remembering where you put stuff Is the fun bit ;) im just a little wack in the head me thinks

Put the oil pan upper plate and the oil pan on :) I got a pic to show you guys. Please tell me the blue silicone sealant is the right one :)

My head hurts though. Maybe it was my pals dip cup in the corner or just being around the oil but im glad I got it all done :)

I might try and pick up some belts as an Xmas present. Its got 85k on it and the old ones are somewhat cracking. While I've got it apart, I figure it cant hurt to do that. :) and it makes it more worth it if I order those and my throttle body gasket.

s*** the bed man! you need a new oil sump/pan!

So I had some time on my hands to work on the P5 today, decided to get some prep work done to pull the motor. As I was taking the studs of my exhaust manifold the ratchet slipped hit the AC line on the AC pump and shot freon in my engine bay and in my face. So needless to say the progress for today ceased immediately. FML!!!

Should I pick up a new pan in all honesty? Im picking up belts in the week. May as well pick up a pan too if you guys really think its necessary. It doesn't leak- yet...

EDIT: I cant justify $130 on that... Ill probably go till I notice a leak and then have it sealed. I know, probably not the smartest option but, until I acquire more funds, that'll have to do. You would have thought Mazda would use a more resistant metal... but the fact that its under the car and gets pelted with debris probably doesn't help the situation...

Wow thar actually made me sad phen.
I'm currently thinking of selling my 5 since I dont really use it anymore since I now have a motorcycle.

Well... if you saw how much of the car was rusted, you'll say that it was a fitting death. Aah well, it had over 175k on it. Not like it had a short life.

What is the temp rating on the blue silicone you used? I use the black high temp silicone without any issues. You might be fine with the blue. Worse case scenario, if it leaks, pull it off and reseal it with the high temp black. Congrats on the progress though, mate!

Changed Oil, cleaned up some wires and gave it a wash. Its been about a month and a half since I have done anything to it. lol

Wed, going to swap out o2 sensors and the broken trans mount.

I'll have to look tomoz. Im humbled you congratulated me :) really though. I look up to everyone on here though. You guys are all cool even if I dont know you guys face to face. In all honesty, I asked the guy at orileys but then again, I might not have conveyed that its gonna be super close to a hot engine. What temp am I looking for?

@PHEN: I said this in my build thread but ill say here too: not to ophend but that's a hole lotta rust on that frame... Glad to know you put it out of commission so nobody can drive that death trap (again, no offence). Did the engine still run before you took it out?

I didn't do any of that work as I'm still in China, but yeah, it did run when it was parked. Snapped the alternator belt and it was put to rest. I'm not offended. I gave up on that car long ago and no one understood why.

Well, it was a nice car im sure... Before the rust set in...

I now understand what everyone was talking about re the pass strut tower being rusted through. My tower is okay right now, just surface stuff and minor at that. What's going to be your new daily when you're back if you haven't already said? I cant assume itd be the bimmer. And the Miata would probably be saved for the warm sunny days...

I dont mean to get too personal now... Lol.

haha. I haven't driven that car in 2 years. I've had a 97 Civic since 2001 that is my daily. 202k miles, GSR engine swap, and NO RUST. It used to be nice, but it rusted really fast and I couldn't keep up with it. Must have been a flood car.

Some examples of when it was nice...

Dang... I wish I was there in that last pic to add one more to that party...
I thought the Honda might have been a thing of the past. Did not know you have it still.

On that bombshell however, im hitting the hay. Was a pleasure talking. Im sure I'll respond to the happenings of tomorrow. Until then, take it easy mate.

(had to make that very awkward over the forum. Dont judge me guys ;) )
