What have you done to your P5 today?

The JIC website indicates it's a catback, but I guess we won't know until we get confirmation from the member who bought it.

So on the way to and back from the post office I was hearing a nasty little scrapping/scratching noise on my passenger side, so I got into my neighborhood and drove slowly so I could listen. Irritated as hell, I get home and look under the car to find a branch stuck between the frame and side skirt underneath the car and sighed with relief that it was nothing serious.

Has anybody ever used coolant from other auto makers? I have a friend that hooks me up with maintenance work at the Honda dealership he works at and they have this blue coolant. It would save me some cash since he gives the stuff to me for free. Any comments on this?

normally i try to stay with the same color
ask him what its made of, the green stuff is ethelyne glycol so if its the same chemical then i dont see why that would harm the engine

it could cause some corrosion if its different

Actually from what I know as a Honda owner, the most recent blue coolant made by Honda is less harsh due to Honda's sensitive seals, so if anything I would think it would be extra safe for the Mazdas.

EDIT: Just read up online and found out that it will work, thanks guys.

all my cars get toyota red coolant after a thorough flush of the old stuff. I get it for free and its worked well thus far in everything i have owned and all the toyotas i work on.

About the only coolant i would always always steer clear of is DEXcool...worse crap ever

Dexcool ruined the radiator in my Moms Monte Crapo. It was overheating, she put in water (not knowing there was dexcool), and boom! the stuff turned to jello. Multiple hundreds of dollars later, new radiator blah blah...

Yeah DexCool is crap for sure!

Toyota Red is also a very excellent coolant, I wish I had free access to it like I do with the Honda stuff.

water doesnt turn dexcool into jello only if you add the wrong antifreez in and the blue stuff i belive its just animal safe

I planned on doing that also, are there any mainsteam auto places that carry it?

Also, what is the price of a thermostat from Mazda?

i really can't say... i always bought mine from redline... also picked up my thermostat from there also... IIRC the thermostat was like $35
